REMINDER ‼ 🎆 Fireworks ARE NOT allowed at any time over the Victoria Day Weekend. Have a great long weekend everyone!

Victoria Day Weekend Reminder!

Ahead of this long weekend, we’d like to remind residents and visitors that setting off fireworks is not permitted at any time over the Victoria Day Weekend.

The Municipality’s Fireworks By-law has specific dates and times in which Fireworks can be used.

• New Year's Eve - between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. the following day;
• Canada Day- between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on July 1st and the Weekends directly preceding and following it;
• Civic Holiday - between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it;
• Labour Day - between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it;

🎆 Why are Fireworks not Permitted on Victoria Day?
Loons are vulnerable to fireworks in May as it aligns with their nesting season. Fireworks may cause loons to panic, abandoning nests and leaving chicks at risk.

The entire By-law (B2023 053) can be read here: https://www.trentlakes.ca/build/by-laws-and-enforcement/

Have a great long weekend and stay safe!

We are looking for local artists and vendors that would like to have a booth at DockFest this year.

The event is held at Catchacoma Marina and provides an opportunity to meet up with our lake neighbours, enjoy some food and have some fun. There’s live music, burgers on the bbq, local artisans, info booths, Trent Lakes fire truck and more.

Visit our website for more information about applying for a booth: www.catchacomalake.com

Emergency Preparedness Week 📣

Once you’ve gathered your important documents, the next step is creating your Household Emergency Plan. This plan helps you know who to call, where to go, and what to do before an emergency happens.

Here are some simple actions to get started:

📌 Talk with your household or family
✔️ Choose a meeting place inside and outside your home
✔️ Decide who everyone will contact if separated
✔️ Review how you’ll communicate during an emergency
✔️ Include your pet emergency plan

📌 If you rely on regular support services
✔️ Reach out to your home care, community programs, or mobility support providers
✔️ Ask what emergency services or backup options are available
✔️ Make sure you know who to call and what to expect if your routine or services are disrupted

📌 If you’re a parent or caregiver
✔️ Contact your child’s school or daycare
✔️ Learn their emergency procedures, reunification plans, and communication methods
✔️ Add their information to your own emergency plan

📌 If you take regular medication
✔️ Call your doctor or talk to a pharmacist
✔️ Ask how extreme events (heat waves, power outages, winter storms) could affect your medication
✔️ Find out if there are safe storage alternatives or short-term solutions during emergencies

Pre‑planning takes just a few conversations, and can make you safer, calmer, and more confident when you need it most.

Emergency Preparedness Week marks its 31st year, reminding Canadians that being prepared starts with understanding the risks around us. This year’s theme, “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.” encourages everyone to take simple steps, including learning about potential hazards, planning for disruptions and keeping an emergency kit readily available.

From extreme heat and severe storms to wildfires, floods and earthquakes, hazards can vary widely depending on where you live. Knowing which emergencies are most likely to occur in your region and how to respond can help reduce impacts and protect what matters most.

Across Canada, preparation looks different for everyone, but the goal is the same: being ready to act when an emergency happens. By staying informed and having a plan in place, you can face emergencies with greater confidence. https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/hzd/index-en.aspx
