Zakat India is India's first initiative which has Organised Zakat Collection and Institutionalised Utilisation of Zakat Funds to Address Socio-Economic Problems of "the Poor" and "the Needy" in India. It is regarded as a type of worship and of self-purification. Zakat is the third Pillar of Islam

Zakat does not refer to charitable gifts given out of kindness or generosity, but to the systematic g

iving of 2.5% of one's wealth each year to benefit the poor

The benefits of Zakat, apart from helping the poor, are as follows:
• Obeying God
• Helping a person acknowledge that everything comes from God on loan and that we do not really own anything ourselves
• And since we cannot take anything with us when we die we need not cling to it
• Acknowledging that whether we are rich or poor is God's choice
• So we should help those he has chosen to make poor
• Learning self-discipline
• Freeing oneself from the love of possessions and greed
• Freeing oneself from the love of money
• Freeing oneself from love of oneself
• Behaving honestly

The 2.5% rate only applies to cash, gold and silver, and commercial items. There are other rates for farm and mining produce, and for animals

Our Story

The Zakat India initiative enables the Muslim community with the opportunity to fulfill its religious charity obligations by providing Muslims with an avenue to give Zakat. The Zakat is in turn distributed to people in need. A great portion is also integrated within our other major Zakat India initiatives to sponsor students belonging weaker sections of society who are preparing for competitive examinations such as Medical, Engineering, Law, Civil Services etc., (entitling them to receive Zakat). The Zakat Funds is also used to assist and feed the “poor” and the “needy” that are in need of financial assistance and fit into the Zakat recipient category.

The Zakat India does not take any percentage for administration cost. 100% of all monies received by the Zakat India will go directly to the Zakat recipients.
