Hi Everyone, 12/22/25

Its hard to believe but here we are at the end of 2025 Celebrating Christmas and the many other holidays at this time of year like Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. They may all be on different timings of the month but one thing everyone in the world shares is a Happy New Year on Jan 1st 2026.

2025 was a very hard year for Angels with the passing of my good friend Steve Powers, The transfer of Sister Mary to Italy and also the transfer of Sister Shanti to Southern India. All 3 of them helped us help the poor in so many different ways. I miss all three of them very much. Sister Mary and Sister Shanti are still here and in time they will help us again with our work. My Friend Steve Powers is now gone Forever. I will always miss him and the thousands of hours he spent helping Children are Angels, helping the kids and looking after the page. May Steve rest in peace until we meet again.

As all of you know, December is a very busy time for Children are Angels from Heaven. With all of your help I do my very best this time of year to try and help as many people that I can all over the world in some small way even if it's just to bring a smile.

Our work is still in progress for Christmas and some of the work is not finished, but I will tell you a little about this year's work.

With the help of two schools St John in Wellesley MA and St John in Boston with a Halloween candy drive I had so much candy this year I shipped it all over the USA in many boxes to Soup kitchens to Veterans Homes including Senior Centers and after school Youth Workshops. With the help of the US Post Office 7 big boxes of candy were sent to International countries, 2 boxes to Nepal, 2 boxes to Rourkela India and three boxes were sent to Eastern Ukraine. I am very proud to tell you for a fact that right now our candy is in Eastern Ukraine and is being given away as I write this mail.

I also sent a huge donation box to Nepal with the candy and used shoes and sandals along with some dolls. The box is now in Nepal on its way to the Sisters at a Convent to give to the children.

Locally we have bought many toys for Toys for Tots again, as well as a Secret Santa Program in a small town.

We also bought big tote bags for the Mothers of the children at Christmas in the City as well as helping children build GingerBread Houses with our donated Candy.

There is a lot more to all this but for now I wish Everyone a Happy Holiday whatever you Celebrate. For me it's Christmas. Most of all I wish EVERYONE a Happy New year and hope for PEACE in Every country on Earth in 2026.

Below you will see we have been very busy sorting and boxing candy and donations as well as shopping for the childrens toys.

From the Bottom of my Heart I Thank You for your help and support every year

Happy Holidays

Hi Everyone

The big box was mailed to Nepal on 6th December. 3 boxes of the Halloween candy are on their way to the Ukraine this week , one box of candy is now in India and the other is on its way...all this and the Halloween candy was sent to many additional places in the USA...

I also went shopping for the Toys for Tots program again this year and also a Secret Santa program for a small town in NH. I also purchased two sewing machines for another program that we support.

Without going on it's been very busy in my house the past month....

I want everyone to understand, we do this work together...and I am an old school person who says a Thank You the best way I know how.

There are so many of you helping me do this work it takes days to write all the Thank you letters and get them mailed out to everyone especially at this time of year.

One thing for sure is, I will never ever ask anyone for a donation...>>>> Our work has to speak for itself...and you have to want to help.

Here is a photo of my living room...getting some Thank You mailings ready for the post office...

Thanks to all of you, for keeping me very very busy... :-)

This is a very short update just to keep in touch with you and let you know that I have been very very busy with Angels looking after what we do , and also your donated money to be sure everything bought or done, is for the best value.

First

Everyone should now have a new Children are Angels from Heaven Newsletter... It covers the year Jan to Dec 2024. Please understand that I am always one year behind to tell the year's work. Soon I will start writing about 2025

Second

The St John Candy Drive from Wellesley and Boston MA
I have to tell you this year the children of each school did a fantastic job and our candy has been sent to many places to bring a BIG smile.. I will tell the story soon where everything went to but for now I can tell you the last two boxes will be put in the mail today for the Children of Nepal along with some childrens shoes , balls and dolls....One Candy box arrived in India yesterday for the children with another still in the mail to arrive soon. It takes many days to Inspect ,Box up, and ship all the candy. We are now finished shipping all the candy. Now I sit and wait for Thank You Letters where everything went to.

Third

Every sponsorship letter that I had received for the sponsored students in India was sent out yesterday by DHL and will arrive in Rourkela India by Dec 11... That will be great as it will be just in time for Christmas and the Children will love getting mail from America and their sponsors.

Four

One final note... This time of year I receive many donations mostly by checks, but there are other ways people donate to our small charity Regular Paypal, or the Paypal Giving Fund along with Fidelity Charitable, FaceBook and there are also a few others that are rare....

This is what I want you to understand. Let's take the PayPal Giving Fund for an example..

If you have not filled out the form correctly and are not listed on the fund. Your Name and Address does not come to me with your donation. ONLY THE AMOUNT...

I do not like that as I like to always say Thank You to EVERYONE who supports us. This week I received two donations, one for $4.41 through PayPal .... and the other for $74.01 through the PayPal Giving Fund. There is a difference between the two one has no fees to donate to us but You get your receipt from Payal. It's a little tricky to do but again if you do not list your name and address , the funds come as Anonymous and that is how I list it in my record books ... I have to keep all my funding up to date and by IRS standards with no exceptions..

Five

For now I will end this mail and wish you a nice day. We had our first snow in NH yesterday and I have to go and snowblow the driveway ....

You will see two photos one is my kitchen with donations, newsletters, and the big box going to Nepal ...
Another is beautiful New Hampshire looking down the small lake

Thanks Everyone for Everything along with your understanding.

A special Day for Ray OBrien- 2025

I hope everyone has enjoyed a nice fall and all of you are getting ready for winter. It's just around the corner.

Today I want to bring you a story that is not related directly to Angels but in some small way Angels and my story to tell you go hand and hand.

I have told you a few times that when I grew up my Dad was gone and out of the picture of bringing me up and my Mother looked after my Sister and myself doing all the work. We had very little at the time but as I have gotten older I now understand that my Mother did her very best to look after us with the limited funds that she had and put both of us children before herself. When I look back now to see what she did, I wish she was here so I could give her a hug and say Thank You to her as now I understand what she did.

At that time in the early 60s it must have been very hard for a Mother to look after a growing boy to teach him about life ahead in the coming few short years.

That brings me to this, because of my Fathers absence and my Mother with limited knowledge of a boy starting to become a young man I met people who reached out to help me in life like working on the Cushman's Bakery truck with Fred Nickerson all over Somerville or working at the Royal White Laundry in Somerville with David and Arnold Leibovitz as well as having newspaper routes in West Medford, MA and working at Gas stations in Arlington, MA

Yes I learned to work at a very young age and became a very good honest worker throughout my entire working career and I was also a good student at school at the same time.

This may sound a little crazy but the people who I worked for at a very early age took my Fathers place and helped mold me for my adult future. This all started when I was from 8 years old to 14 years old.... To skip ahead a few years I am now 16 years old driving the laundry trucks and working inside the laundry plant washing clothes and running the machines as well as greasing and cleaning the machines after school or all summer long. At this point of my life I liked to work with tools but had no real idea what they were or how to use them.

I was in 9th grade at the Hobbs Jr High School in Medford MA and one day a Guidance counselor came into our class and asked if anyone would be interested in going to the Melvin V Weldon Vocational School in Medford and learning a trade like Machine Shop or Automobile repair or other trades . The counselor gave us paperwork to read and take home for our parents to see. Well in my family nobody ever went to college we honestly did not even know what it was, let alone be able to pay for it... I liked the idea of learning a trade working with my hands and tools so I signed up for next year's class.

I was accepted into the Auto Shop. I honestly did not know a hammer from a screwdriver when that class started the following September.

I went 2 years at that school before going to Medford's brand new High School and Vocational School in 1971. I graduated from Medford Vocational Technical High School in 1971 . The very first class of the new school. When I graduated from school I first went to work at Mirak Chevrolet in Arlington for $2.50 per hour then International Harvester in Medford to work on trucks then on to Ryder Truck Rental working on fleets of trucks at night.

The one thing I always remembered from when I was a young boy and my Mother struggling to look after me for my future was the people who helped me along the way and who opened doors along my life journey. Being a truck mechanic was no joke, looking after Teamster truck drivers and their trucks and keeping everyone safe so they came back to the shop every night with an empty truck after their run without mechanical failures, big accidents or anyone getting hurt, I did it for over 45 years and finally retired a few years ago.

So now you know a little of the history of Ray OBrien and my trade as a mechanic. Now let me tell you the surprise story that took place a week ago.

I have not been feeling the best from getting old and being worn out... I am up and down some days good, other days not so good ....That's just part of life getting old.

I have always been a person that Right is Right.... with nothing in between at home and work along with people.

I have two Nephews Steve & Mike and a Cousin John. They too came from a home life that was not the best when they were growing up. They are from 8 to 15 years younger than I am. Well because people helped meand I know what it meant, I did my very best to look after all 3 of them. I worked all 3 of them hard learning how to do things, even building a small vacation house together in New Hampshire. but we also had so much fun together. We went on motorcycle trips, fished together, and did everything together. I tried to motivate them to learn everything I could to become good, well rounded adults who go to work every day and work hard. I am proud to say that's what each one of them are today: hard workers with good families. All 3 had the fire in them to become something good but not many people to mentor or guide the 3 of them so I did what I could to help them just like people did to me years earlier.

My Nephew Steve never forgot the old days. It makes me laugh thinking about him. He never forgot any of my teachings when he was young, finding his way in life or going to Papa Gino's and Funspot Arcade in Laconia NH after a hard day's work.

About 3 weeks ago Steve called me and said to me, Uncle Ray, I am going to the Vocational School in 3 weeks. I want you to come with me. I said ok to him. He went to the same school and graduated from the carpentry class in 1985.

On Oct 16 this year Steve and his wife Jen came to my house. I was happy to see him as he lives in North Carolina now. We sit and talk then have something to eat in my kitchen and I ask him Steve what are you going to the Voc for? I had to ask him 3 or 4 times about it and he would not tell me . I started to get mad and said Steve what is this all about? My family was now sitting all around the table. Steve turned to me and said Uncle Ray it's all about you at the Voc tomorrow. I said to Steve what are you talking about? He said for over 2 years I have been working with the City of Medford School department, the Superintendent of Schools, the Mayor's office and the Principal at the Vocational school. I want to honor you for all your hard work looking after me and all your hard work for many years looking after the truck drivers and your co workers and others. You always worked hard to look after everyone and I want to say Thank You to you.

Steve said I know that you loved going to the Medford Voc and that's where the first door opened for you in the Auto Mechanics Shop to fix cars and trucks so I have arranged that the tool crib inside the Auto shop be named after your honor with a small plaque mounted on the wall beside it for everyone to read about you. The school Principal Mr Chad Fallon is very excited to meet you along with the students and teachers of the school and our family. We will meet tomorrow morning in the Medford MA Automotive Vocational shop that you graduated from almost 55 years ago. He said there is more to it, but that's enough for today to tell you. I was shocked. To this day 2 weeks afterwards I am still in shock over what was done for me.

The next day I got dressed and went to the Voc with my entire family after many many years. It was an unbelievable feeling. When I drove up to park my car the principal Mr Chad Fallon was outside to welcome me and my family to the school. We walked down the long hallway to the Auto shop and when I walked in the teachers and young students were there to say hello to me.

After the Principal Mr Fallon said a few words, Steve got up and said a few words about me then I was asked to give a short talk. I loved that the auto shop students and teachers stood beside me and listened carefully to what I had to say. After all, 55 years ago I was one of the students in the class. I did get a little long in my talk , but I wanted to make a point that Safety is an important part of being a mechanic. You have to keep yourself safe as well as the drivers or customers that you fix vehicles for. Keeping yourself safe also means your personal safety. Like wearing gloves staying warm in the cold when you are outside , keeping motor oil off your skin, breathing exhaust fumes or being safe from other cars and trucks when on a road call on the highway along with using the proper equipment when fixing cars or trucks like the proper jacks and jack stands and always knowing where an extinguisher is, or in today's world always having a cell phone in your pocket for an emergency.

Technology has changed very much since I went to this school. You students have to work much harder than I had to, to understand how everything works to do a professional repair and make money or keep your boss happy.

There is one thing for sure about being a mechanic, You will always work very hard and always have lots of work to do but you will never become a millionaire but you will always have money in your pocket. You boys are all young men now, soon you may be married with a family ! Now is the time to plan your future where you want to end up in 55 years. Learn everything you can every day you come to this school (A for effort ) as one day you are going to walk out the school door like I did many years ago for the last time and the only thing you will take with you from this school are the skills and training that you got here. You will never forget your teachers or this wonderful school. I wish all of you the best of luck when that day arrives.

To end I shook each student's hand and the Principal Mr Fallon read what was on the Plaque and Steve gave him a $20,000 donation to the Automotive shop in honor of me.

I almost fell on the floor as I knew nothing about that... After my family left the Auto shop we were taken to the Culinary Arts Dept of the school where they have a restaurant and my family and myself were given a huge grand breakfast. Everything you could think of was given to us by the Culinary Art Students at the school on one long long table . It was fantastic.

Mr Fallon gave Steve his and myself a giant copy of our 1985 & 1971 yearbook photos made by the Graphic Arts Department , along with Medford Mustangs Tee Shirts and Sweatshirts... Later that evening Steve took everyone out for Chinese Dinner at the China Sky in Wi******er MA that too was fantastic. Surely a day to remember forever for everyone.

Here is the moral to this story : Steve never forgot I tried to help him along with many others in my lifetime just like people did for me. When I travel to India and work with the Sisters or other people to give the children pencils, a ball or build a playground or maybe a chair and desk to sit in at school. Those children will also never forget someone stepped forward to help them or their school.

You can also be a mentor to someone who might need a little help or a friend. It's not that hard and it can be fun for you. All you have to do is take that first step out your front door wherever you live in this world and open your Eyes and Heart and look for someone or someplace in need...

Life is very very short. The older you get the more you understand it better.

Many times people are honored for their work when they have passed away. I am one of the lucky ones. This honor was given to me when I am alive to enjoy every day of it until God calls for me.

Thank you Steve McCarthy and your family , Thank You Medford , Thank You Medford Vocational School Principal, Staff and Students and Many thanks to my family

Below you will see some photos as well as a link to the page of the Medford School System and what they wrote about the event. For what it's worth I have to add that my two girls went to this same school graduating in 2008 & 2011. Each one of my girls Joanna and Melissa won the Lawrence R. Volpe award for academic and overall excellence in each of their year's graduation class and their name is on a giant trophy in the Vocational school showcase..I have always been very proud of that. Joanna took Early Childhood Education and is a teacher. Melissa took Nursing and very soon she will have a Masters of Nursing degree. So as you can see the Medford Vocational Technical High School has been very good to my family. It opened the doors to my future, as well as my children's future.

Below you will find a link to the Medford School System facebook Page where an article has been posted about the event .... https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19b9bPUnkt/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Friendship through an Adoption

Today I would like to write a short story of a friendship made through an adoption from long ago.

Many years ago during my early trips to India I would visit the orphanage where at that time my 2 beautiful girls came from. I would go back to the orphanage as many times as I could during each visit to India to see the Massies and the children. On some days I would visit one or two times a day and I was always a welcome visitor at the Home.

I watched with my own eyes as the Massies took care of the children. It was always 2 small babies to one Massie. The Massies would feed one baby while the other baby slept in a small crib, or maybe when feeding one baby they would rock the baby to sleep in a small infant rocking seat. If some of the children were a little older, I watched the Massies hold the child’s hand and take their first footsteps in the long hallway of the building.

Here is the bottom line, I always remember the love that was given to each child whatever their needs were in the orphanage until the adoption paperwork was completed in the courts and the child could be processed out to their forever home. Many times to the USA but also to other countries as well as domestic adoptions.

One sad part of each visit at the orphanage was visiting the handicapped children in the orphanage. I am sorry to say that these children rarely got adopted and the same children were there for me to visit year after year. It was so sad even to this day to think about. Some of the children were blind others were delayed or could not walk.

Over the years I have followed these handicapped children. Many are now 20 to 25 years old and living at another orphanage. I am very proud to say I still visit every one of these children that are still alive as many have passed away. They are like part of my family. The children still to this day have a wonderful staff who looks after them in every way. Please understand that a Massie most of the time is an older woman and very strong. To move one of these adult children from a bed to a wheelchair takes lots of strength and at times it takes 2 women to do it as there are no machines to do it. It’s all manual labor.

It’s a long story but my boy Raymond came to us as handicapped and he has brought so much love to our family. He can not walk or speak but he is so beautiful in every way. I believe in my heart he was God’s gift sent to me and my family. So now you can understand that I have 3 adopted children: two girls and a boy.

I can only say this about our 3 adoptions long ago … You do not just pay money to adopt a child, that was secondary. First you must prove to the court system in India and the USA that you are worthy to adopt a child and that you have a job and funds to support a child. Trust me, there is a mountain of paperwork along with Social Workers home visits and interviews.

So now you know about me and my visits along with a little about adoptions……I am sure rules have changed over the years but living in the USA and doing an international adoption takes a lot of time because you are dealing with the rules and laws of two countries.

As I wrote earlier, on every trip to India I visit the orphanage where my children came from to say Thank You to everyone and have a nice visit every day for a few hours… The Massis liked that I remembered all of them and the children and came back to see them each year until the orphanage closed its doors.

I would always stay in the nursery with everyone. The Massies would let me hold their babies that are waiting to be adopted or they may make something for me to eat like soup that I carry around with me. I would eat right there with everyone. It was always a fantastic visit and I loved every minute of it seeing everyone.

With adoptions there is usually a 9 month to a one year wait for the adoption process to move forward after being assigned a child. The courts are slow in the USA and India and it takes time to look after every detail of the prospective adoptive parents to make sure everything is in order. During this time it is a very long stressful wait for the adoptive parents.

Remember 25 years ago there were no cell phones or computers. All you got was a small photo of your new baby to adopt, along with a little paperwork saying a little about him or her.

During this waiting time, if someone were to visit the orphanage where their baby was, a family here may ask , if you can take a few photos of their baby for us or maybe bring something to the child. When you become a part of adoption you understand that you are now part of adoption families, and that means to help anyone any way that you can especially during this long waiting period.

Finally, on one day everything is complete and the courts in India and the USA give the ok to the orphanage that everything has been completed and that the baby can now travel home wherever that may be to their forever family.

So here I am in India visiting the orphanage as usual enjoying myself.

The manager came up to me and said Ray, we have a baby now ready for transport to the United States. The paperwork has all been completed and she is ready to go . Would you be willing to be the first part of the es**rt team to get her home to her parents in the United States when you go home in a few days?

I have to admit I do not know much about looking after babies and it was a little frightening to think about, but I said it will be an honor to es**rt the child home.

With that they got the baby for me to see, a beautiful little girl and they put her in my arms. I’m telling you it was a moment long long long ago but I still feel the happiness of that moment even today, as I write this mail to all of you.

Annie was beautiful !

During my next few days visiting the orphanage to end my trip that year the Massies would give me formula to mix bottles to sit and feed Annie to make sure that I knew what to do on the long airplane ride home to the USA,
as I was traveling alone and Annie was my responsibility .

Finally the time came for Annie and myself to travel to the airport and fly home together to the United States.

I was given a big envelope of paperwork for Annie from the orphanage with the legal documents to travel along with Annie‘s plane ticket. I was also given a bag full of baby formula along with bottles, diapers and wipes. We had a 2 AM flight so we left for the airport at 9:30 PM just in case there were any problems at the airport.

With the officials at the airport looking over Annie’s paperwork everything worked out fine.

At 2 AM the huge plane took off down the bumpy runway. Once the airplane lifted off the ground and it was smooth as the plane accelerated into the night sky. I knew Annie was on the way home and there was no turning back now. I was so happy for her that I had tears running down my face.

After two very long flights and some help from two other women passengers feeding and changing Annie on the airplane , Annie and I arrived in Boston.

After going through security with Annie and showing her immigration paperwork along with mine to the officials, we were allowed to enter the United States of America…

When I walked out to the arrival area, there was my wife Patty waiting for me and here I was with no real luggage (as I gave everything away in India) and a baby in my arms.

Patty just looked at me and started to cry….

It took a few minutes for me to explain everything to Patty. She said Ray, she is beautiful…

After a short wait at the airport I met the next es**rt that would bring Annie to her family.
As I gave the baby basket to the es**rt, Patty said to me, I want to keep her and started to cry again.

I have to admit I did not want to say goodbye either to Annie.. But we said goodbye and I went home with Patty and Annie continued her Journey to her forever home with her new es**rt.

Over the many years I have often thought about that trip and me bringing that little girl halfway around the world to her family. It has been so special to me all these years .

Once Annie got home a few days later her mother wrote to me to tell me everything was good and she thanked me for all my help.

Annie went to a family that already had 3 brothers along with a Mom and Dad.

Over the years I have shared many mails with Annie‘s Mother telling me about Annie growing up, as well about the boys. The Mother also told me about family trips together with the kids and the 3 boys all becoming Eagle Boy Scouts.

I often think of Annie‘s family like my family, Happy together doing things together with many good memories

Time has moved forward many years from when I first met Annie in India and I would like to show you a few photos of Annie and her family from long ago to today…

Annie has become a teacher … And I want the entire world to know that I am very proud of her just like her family is.

Below you will find a few photos to tell the rest of the story…

God Bless you Annie and all the other adopted children in the world.

To end, this is a video of Annie today, it was sent to me from her mother…

It is a fun video of Annie – being honored as a 1st grade teacher. Just think – you had something to do with her beginnings!

Hats and Writing Pens to Nepal
A few months ago I was given 3 BIG boxes of Baseball Hats and Writing Pens from a person named Karen.

I unpacked all the boxes and made 2 good size boxes to send. One to a village in Tulachan , Nepal and another to a school in Rourkela , India.

In total there were about 1500 Writing Pens and about 300 Baseball Hats.

To ship boxes halfway around the world overseas, it requires lots of paperwork with the exact details of what is inside every box and money too for shipping costs.

Many times the boxes are opened by the officials to make sure everything is legal and the contents match up to what is written on the paperwork, and at times, I do get charged duty charges for the goods being imported into the country.

The story today is about one of the boxes reaching a small village in Nepal where I have been working with Sister Shanti.

Sister Shanti is a very hard worker of the Daughters of the Cross Sisters. Sister lives in a Convent in the village and teaches at the school. She knows every single student in the school as well as all the village people who live in the surrounding area.

Sister Shanti Received the big box in mid March and un-packed it with the other Sisters. Soon after, Sister Shanti was very busy handing everything out to the Students of her school.

Our Gifts made many children very Happy. Every student of the school received a new ink pen and many of the children got new hats.

You may be thinking why is just one writing pen so special to these children …. or the hats

Here are a few words directly from an Email that Sister Shanti sent me saying Thank You for Everything …

—————————————————————————————————–

Very dear Mr. Ray,

Greetings and gratitude fromTulachan, Nepal. Hope all is well with you and with the Angels in heaven. We and our children from here thank you and your donors for all the help we received from Last April.

I do not have enough words to express the joy our children felt as we distributed the hats and pens you sent us. What a big number we got!!.575 pens and 105 hats, all new!!. “Praise the Lord!!” the sisters said when we opened the box. Your donors and friends have a big generous heart just like yours. Isn’t it? May you and your group be blessed with more and more blessings from God. May all of your families be joyful.

As we went through each class distributing the pens, the kids straight away started writing and making little noise while pushing again and again from the back end of the pen. They were really excited because such pens are not available in the village here. Moreover they are costly in the towns.

Putting on the hats, the kids enjoyed playing in the sun. Some even gave it to their parents who were working in the rice paddy field under the sun!!. It is already summer here. 23*Celsius now. You have brought a lot of laughter, smiles, excitement in St. Joseph’s school Tulachan. I am still wondering how you could do this in spite of the winter cold and your busy schedule!. Please thank the donors. We are praying for them, Our children are praying for them.

We also shared the joy with the Parish children who go to government schools by distributing them the pens. Soon the exams will start. So they can use the pens effectively.

You have been sincerely trying to help us dear Mr. Ray. May your work flourish and bring more and more smiles and Joy in different parts of the world. This is my sincere Prayer for you and your friends.

With warm regards and wishes,

I remain,

Sr. Shanti FC

—————————————————————————————————-
I would also like to say a big Thank You to Everyone for all your help and support… No we do not have millions of dollars, but we sure can do a lot with a little and also be accountable and responsible for everything done, big or small.

When you look at some of the photos you will see new high Low Desks that we bought for the school last year.

Thank You for your continued help and support to help the poor .
