In the United Kingdom, Eid al-Fitr is expected to be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025. This date is determined by the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, which marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal in the Islamic lunar calendar.

According to experts, the crescent moon will be easily visible in the UK on Sunday, March 30, 2025, making it feasible to observe the start of Shawwal that evening. Consequently, Eid al-Fitr is anticipated to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025, aligning with mosques that follow lunar observations similar to Morocco and South Africa.

It’s important to note that there is some controversy regarding the moon sighting in Saudi Arabia. Experts suggest that the crescent moon will be invisible in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, March 29, 2025, making the official announcement of Eid on that day scientifically questionable. However, Saudi authorities have declared that Eid will be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025, leading to a potential discrepancy in Eid celebrations between the UK and Saudi Arabia.

Given these variations, it’s advisable to confirm the Eid date with your local mosque or Islamic center, as practices may differ based on moon sighting methodologies and regional observations.
