Today is World Mental Health Day, and we recognize the importance of mental health to our community.

Survey data shows that mental health was identified as the top community health priority in Somerset County for adults, youth, and children.

Based on self-reported data, 17.5% of adults in Somerset County have ever been diagnosed with depression compared to 16.1% of adults in New Jersey overall. And 11.9% of those surveyed report 10-19 days with poor mental health.

Healthier Somerset’s Mental and Behavioral Health Committee is actively working to improve mental and behavioral health for all who live and work in Somerset County.

What a great way to spend Sundays! The My Healthy Vegetable Patch gardening classes wrapped up this past weekend, providing resources for food-insecure Somerset County residents to grow their own healthy, culturally relevant produce, build skills around nutrition and food preservation, and strengthen long-term food security and wellness.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for these sessions. And a special thank you to our grant funder, the Somerset Hills Community Health Foundation, a Donor Advised Fund at the Foundation of New Jersey, for investing in this important program that is helping to build a Healthier Somerset.
