"Lord Chaitanya declared that the path of karmavāda (fruitive action), however it is performed, will never be capable of bestowing welfare upon human society. Secularism or positivism will not be able to eradicate sin. There is no selflessness in this material world - it is an imaginary concept, a meaningless phrase. He taught that the rich and poor, high and low, scholar and fool, black and white - the diversity of creation - will not become one identical mass. The variations of the three qualities (guṇatraya) - sattva, rajaḥ, and tamaḥ will always exist in the world. However, if a state of equilibrium is established based on a great ideal, then despite the inequalities of the external world, peace and order in human society will not be disrupted. The core problem will not be removed by pleasant-sounding words like varṇāśrama-dharma, universalism, equality, world-love, proposed non-violence, or selflessness. The minds of the Bengali people were soothed by the nectarine spring of prema-bhakti (loving devotion) introduced by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. All of Bengal was flooded by a novel inundation of rasa. The social division amongst human beings remained no more. The difficult path of religion became easy. The Lord, who is usually attained only through difficult austerities, allowed Himself to be caught easily by the people. He gave everyone the right to attain the supreme goal (paramārtha) regardless of caste or creed. He announced that every human has equal right and qualification through Kṛṣṇa-nāma-saṅkīrtana in the worship of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the cause of all causes, the Supreme Lord, endowed with inconceivable power. There is no need to wait for the merciful glance of man-made constitutions. In the context of scripture, He showed the community of expert scholars that "this is not my personal religious opinion." It is not a judgment against the Veda-śruti; rather, the significance of the Vedas and Vedānta, which the renowned sages and ācāryas of ancient India have accepted, is prema-bhakti.

Śrīmad Vedavyāsa has recorded in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (2.4.18):

kirāta-hūṇāndhra-pulinda-pulkaśā
ābhīra-śumbhā yavanāḥ khasādayaḥ
ye ’nye ca pāpā yad-apāśrayāśrayāḥ
śudhyanti tasmai prabhaviṣṇave namaḥ

(Kirāta, Hūṇa, Āndhra, Pulinda, Pulkaśa, Ābhīra, Śumbha, Yavana, members of the Khasa races and even others addicted to sinful acts can be purified by taking shelter of the devotees of the Supreme Lord, as He is the supreme power. I offer my respectful obeisances unto Him.)"

श्री राय रामानन्द के सिद्धान्त : मायावाद के सर्वथा विपरीत तथा समस्त आध्यात्मिक साध्यों का सार

उड़ीसा-राज्य के अधीन पश्चिम गोदावरी प्रान्त के राज्यपाल श्रील राय रामानन्द तथा उड़ीसा के विद्या-केन्द्र के प्रधान वासुदेव सार्वभौम—दोनों ही अत्यन्त विद्वान एवं उच्च पदासीन थे। पूर्वकाल में शंकराचार्य के मायावाद से आच्छन्न सार्वभौम भट्टाचार्य, श्री रामानन्द राय के उन निष्कर्षों की उपेक्षा एवं उपहास करते थे, जो कृष्ण-प्रेम से विभूषित थे।

किन्तु श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु की कृपा से आप्लावित होने के पश्चात् उन्होंने अपने पूर्व अहंकार के लिए पश्चात्ताप किया। परवर्ती समय में, साध्य एवं साधन के विषय में हुए दिव्य संवाद में, महाप्रभु के प्रश्न के उत्तर में श्री रामानन्द राय ने पाँचवें स्तर पर यह निष्कर्ष प्रस्तुत किया—
“ज्ञान-शून्य भक्ति सर्व-साध्य-सार”
अर्थात् तर्क-वितर्कमय मानसिक ज्ञान से रहित शुद्ध भक्ति ही समस्त साध्यों का सार है।

“ज्ञाने प्रयासम् उदपास्य नमन्त एव
जीवन्ति सन्मुखरितां भवदीय-वार्ताम् ।
स्थाने स्थिताः श्रुतिगतां तनु-वाङ्-मनोभिर्
ये प्रायशोऽजित जितोऽप्यसि तैस्त्रिलोक्याम् ॥”

— श्रीमद्भागवतम् १०.१४.३

ब्रह्माजी ने श्रीकृष्ण से कहा—
“हे प्रभु! जो भक्त निर्गुण ब्रह्म के चिन्तनरूप ज्ञान-प्रयास का पूर्णतः त्याग कर देते हैं, तथा महापुरुषों के श्रीमुख से प्रवाहित आपकी कथाओं का श्रवण करते हुए, अपने शरीर, वाणी एवं मन से साधुजन-प्रदर्शित मार्ग का अनुसरण करते हैं—वे आपको सहज ही प्राप्त कर लेते हैं, यद्यपि आप तीनों लोकों में अन्य किसी के लिए दुरलभ हैं।”

Śrīla Rāya Rāmānanda, the governor of the West Godāvarī province under the Orissan kingdom, and Vāsudeva Sārvabhauma, the leader of the Orissan center of learning, were both supremely learned and held high positions. Previously, Sārvabhauma, steeped in Śaṅkara’s monism, used to ridicule and ignore the conclusions of Śrī Rāmānanda, which were adorned with kṛṣṇa-prema.

But after being bathed in the mercy of Śrī Caitanya, he repented for his former arrogance. Later, during the discussion to determine the ultimate goal (sādhya) and the means (sādhana), Śrī Rāmānanda, in response to Mahāprabhu's question, stated at the fifth level: jñāna-śūnyā bhakti sarva-sādhya-sāra (Devotion devoid of speculative knowledge is the essence of all goals.)

“jñāne prayāsam udapāsya namanta eva
jīvanti san-mukharitāṁ bhavadīya-vārtām
sthāne sthitāḥ śruti-gatāṁ tanu-vāṅ-manobhir
ye prāyaśo 'jita jito 'py asi tais tri-lokyām”

— (Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 10.14.3)

Brahmā said to Śrī Kṛṣṇa: "O Lord! Those devotees who completely cast aside the endeavor for speculative knowledge in the form of meditating on the featureless Brahman, and instead listen to Your topics as they flow from the lips of saintly persons, living their lives according to the path of the saints with body, mind, and words, find You easily attainable, though You are otherwise unattainable within the three worlds."

In 1937, the disappearance of Śrīla Prabhupāda Bhaktisiddhanta Sarswati Goswami Thakur created a vast vacuum. Śrīla Patitpavan Goswami Thakur (Srila Prabhujī) returned to the Bāgbāzār Maṭha in Kolkata.

During his travels, he observed many women who possessed an intense eagerness to serve the Lord but were oppressed by a society that offered them no independence. They pleaded with him for a way to escape worldly suffering and surrender to Guru-Vaiṣṇava-Bhagavān.
Śrīla Prabhupāda had envisioned a "Viṣṇupriyā Palli" for women devotees in Māyāpur, a desire that remained unfulfilled during his manifest presence. Later, Śrīla Ācāryadeva (Śrī Śrīmad Bhakti Prasāda Purī Gosvāmī Ṭhākura) blessed him, saying: "May the heart's desire of Śrīla Prabhupāda be fulfilled through you. By giving women the opportunity for Hari-bhajana, you will make the name 'Patita Pāvana' successful."

Eventually, Śrīla Prabhujī established Śrī Guru Prapanna Āśrama in locations such as Budge Budge, Dinhata, Raghunathpur, Navadvīpa, and Basirhat. The word prapanna signifies śaraṇāgati (surrender). He offered this institution at the feet of his Gurudeva as the fulfillment of his "unaccomplished wish."

He faced vigorous protests and insults from conservative society for allowing women to serve the Deities, perform yajñas, and accept renunciation. However, he remained silent and steadfast, proving through Śāstra (scriptures like Hari-bhakti-vilāsa and Samskāra-dīpikā) 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 Śā𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐫ā𝐦𝐚-ś𝐢𝐥ā, 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
