This past Saturday, more than 30 Black men — young and seasoned alike — gave their morning to River Street.

No big ask, no hesitation. Just gloves, bags, and a block that deserves to be cared for. Watching generations show up together for the community that shaped so many of us was a reminder of why this work matters.

Thank you to every man who came out. You set an example that our young men won’t forget.

Join Young Man with a Plan for our Spring Community Clean-Up on May 16 from 11 AM – 2 PM at 1178 River Street in Hyde Park. We’ll be outside, side by side, showing love to the block we’re proud to call ours.

Gloves and supplies provided. Just bring yourself.

This is more than a clean-up — it’s a community showing up for itself. We’d love to have you there.

This past Wednesday, we hosted our second Networking 101 event with

At Networking 101, our young men practiced the conversations that open doors — introducing themselves, asking the right questions, and connecting with professionals who showed up to invest in their futures.

A special thank you to The Philanthropy Connection and their president, Val, for their collaboration and support in making this evening possible. TPC’s commitment to uplifting nonprofits doing meaningful work in Greater Boston is something we’ve experienced firsthand — and Wednesday night was another reminder of what it looks like when a community of women shows up for young men who are just getting started.

To every volunteer who gave their time and shared their story: thank you. You reminded our guys that those doors aren’t just open — they’re waiting for them.

We are thrilled to invite you to a celebration that has been a long time coming!

On Tuesday, May 19th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Young Man with a Plan will host our Building Purchase Ribbon Cutting at 1178 River Street in Hyde Park — our new permanent home.

This milestone is about more than a building. It’s a testament to what’s possible when a community believes in young men and invests in their futures. We want the people who made this possible — our donors, partners, families, and friends — to be the first to walk through these doors.

Join us for refreshments, a tour of the space, remarks from community leaders, and, of course, a ribbon cutting. Your support brought us here, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.

A weekend away, well earned. 

Our seniors headed out of the city to New Hampshire for the Rustic Gatherings retreat — swapping their routines for cooking together, s’mores by the fire, a whirlpool bath, some friendly competition at the pool table, a game of catch, and a movie room full of DVDs.

This is the whole young man. Rest included.

Yesterday, 6 of our seniors got an inside look at Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology — and it did not disappoint.

The visit was led by our very own alum Justyn Palmer, who now works at — a full circle moment before the afternoon even began. He walked our young men through the building, shared his own journey, and set the tone for a day full of real, hands-on discovery. Along the way, they crossed paths with another YMWAP alum, Johnathan Joseph, who spoke openly about his experience at BFit — two familiar faces showing our seniors exactly what’s possible.
Our seniors got to see it all — an active automotive garage, an HVAC class mid-lesson, a room where students tear down and rebuild car engines from scratch, and an electrical class covering everything from circuits to the full scope of becoming an electrician. Everywhere they turned, they saw a viable, tangible career path.

They also sat down with Brian Boppert, Vice President of Enrollment, who walked them through admissions, financial aid, student support, and the full range of major tracks and programs BFit has to offer.

This is exactly what we mean when we talk about expanding horizons — putting our young men in rooms where they can see, touch, and imagine their futures. Thank you to the entire BFit team for the warm welcome.

In these uncertain and scary times, we wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.

With that being said, we have some BIG news to share with the YMWAP family!

On January 6, Young Man with a Plan officially purchased 1178 River Street in Hyde Park—the building we’ve called home for the past four years. What started as a 1,000 sq ft rental initially during the pandemic has grown into a vibrant hub with a fitness area, kitchen, shower, laundry, digital arts room, and study/meeting spaces. Now, with this purchase, we’re adding another 2,000 sq ft upstairs for expanded college, career, and alumni programming.

This building is more than space—it’s a home base and a safe space in rapidly changing Cleary Square where young men of Boston can learn, connect, grow, and plan their futures. Now more than ever, it is especially meaningful that young men in Boston have a place to build a sense of belonging and aspiration.

Our young men build cross-neighborhood friendships, make academic and social-emotional gains, and attend college at roughly twice the rate of their peers. Alumni are now entrepreneurs, educators, engineers, tradespeople, and members of the military.

As we step into this next chapter, we’re raising funds to fuel expanded programming in our new home.

In these uncertain and scary times, we wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year.
