Meet Kao, a College Possible Minnesota coach making a difference in students’ lives every day. As a program alumna, Kao understands the challenges students face navigating college applications and financial aid, especially without family guidance.

By building trust, connecting over shared interests, and helping students break down complex tasks, Kao ensures each student feels supported and confident. Seniors are more engaged than ever, attending sessions, completing applications early, and reaching out for guidance when needed.

When Erika Montoya first connected with College Possible as a high school student, she knew she wanted to go to college but wasn’t sure how to get there. With the support of her coaches, she not only reached that goal but built a career helping others do the same.

Today, Erika is our director of virtual success and the first alumna of the program to reach a director-level role within College Possible. She’s also pursuing her Ph.D. in education with a focus in organizational leadership—a true example of lifelong learning and dedication to student success.

As we celebrate 25 years of making college possible, we’re proud to highlight Erika’s story and the lasting impact of our mission.

At St. Louis Park High School, College Possible coach Ellie is making a remarkable impact. She learned early in the year that students needed more than a checklist—they needed a caring adult who would listen, support and guide them through a complicated college process.

Today, her students text her updates, ask her for recommendation letters and stop by just to talk. Ellie meets them where they are, breaks big tasks into small steps and helps them see how college can connect to the futures they imagine for themselves.

We’re excited to spotlight Ellie and all the coaches who help students thrive.

College Possible alumni — and twins — Joseph and Joshua Garcia were valedictorian and salutatorian of their graduating class. In 2024, they earned over 30 college acceptances and $5 million in scholarships.

“I joined College Possible because I needed guidance during an overwhelming time,” Joshua said. “It showed me there are always solutions and steps to follow to reach my goals.”

Now at Lawrence University, Joshua is studying computer science with dreams of joining the FBI to fight human trafficking. His journey is a powerful reminder that you don’t have to be perfect — giving your all is what truly matters.

🎉 This year marks our 25th anniversary of supporting students like Joshua and Joseph on their journey to and through college. Share your congratulations in the comments!
