This is obviously disheartening and deeply disappointing. Arresting or fining people for experiencing homelessness won’t solve the problem. Countless studies show we can’t "police" homelessness out of existence. Yet, there are proven solutions to addressing homelessness. It takes a community-wide effort to make sure that every person experiencing homelessness is counted and cared for. There have been many communities reducing homelessness by gathering by-name data on folks experiencing homelessness and accurately identifying their needs to be able to provide the right services. Boone County, and many Missouri Counties, has been doing this for years. This data helps us make strategic investments in housing and services and allows us to track progress and see if these interventions are working in our community. We are glad to be getting the housing study results this fall and having the whole community plug into action planning surrounding affordable housing. As, that is one of the major solutions to homelessness.

The Supreme Court ruled an Oregon city's ordinance to bar anyone without a permanent residency from sleeping outside doesn't amount to “cruel and unusual” punishment.
