As soon as I saw these words the other day I knew this was going to be Friday’s post. Somewhere I have a photos of Ryan and Coach Ford. But even without those, I had to share this quote this week.
Here’s a story about Tony probably not many know. When Ryan was about 18 months old and I was 8 months pregnant with Alex, we decided that was the perfect time to move. Being super pregnant and having a toddler, I needed a lot of help packing everything up. One day Scott said someone offered to come help. It was Tony Ford. As just a teenager himself, I was so impressed with how carefully he packed everything for me. I didn’t have to do much at all! I’ve never forgotten that kindness. Years later, that little toddler got to play football for that teenager. I’m still looking for those pictures from Lloyd Wood football days, but this wisdom was too good not to use this week!

Ryan loved playing ball. He loved to win and the physical aspect of playing. But what he remembered most and what drew him to the game all of his life were the relationships made through sports. From playing with his brother Alex in the yard as little boys to being on the field with his dad when Scott was coaching (that little #12 is him) to playing ball in middle and high school and then coaching as an adult with friends turned brothers for life. I hope that as this season winds down, that everyone will remember THIS is the part that matters. THIS is what will stay with you for the rest of your life--not the score or the plays or any of that but the memories with the people you shared this experience with.
