Histrionic personality disorder:
Is a “Cluster B” personality disorder characterized by exaggerated emotions and attention-seeking behavior.
People with this disorder depend on approval from others, which causes them to behave dramatically/inappropriately to get the attention they desire.

The person themselves usually don’t view their behavior as problematic and so don’t usually seek help which makes diagnosis hard.
These individuals are more likely to seek help for anxiety or depression caused by problems created due to their personality disorder.
However if diagnosed, psychotherapy can help them understand their motivations and fears that lead them to their behavior, and can help them find ways to relate to others in a more positive way.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)-
Is a mental illness that severely impacts a persons’s ability to regulate their emotions. It affects the way individuals think and feel about themselves and others, resulting in problems functioning in everyday life.
Individuals have a severe fear of abandonment and often cannot tolerate being alone, however symptoms make it difficult for them to form long lasting relationships.

BPD may improve over time, but in cases where it doesn’t, treatment can help these individuals to learn to live satisfying lives.

Antisocial Personality Disorder:
Is a “cluster B” personality disorder characterized by impulsive, irresponsible and sometimes criminal behavior. This person is typically manipulative, deceitful and has no empathy. The disorder can be mild or severe. Psychopaths are considered to suffer from a severe form of this personality disorder.
In some cases the condition can be managed and treated, but it’s unlikely this individual will seek treatment themselves. It’s important to be aware of the signs so if you know someone suffering you can get them the help they need.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder -
Is a cluster A personality disorder in which the individual appears odd/eccentric. They generally have issues forming relationships and don’t understand the impact their behavior has on others. They may also misinterpret others behaviors and therefore develop mistrust of others.
These all may lead to severe anxiety and withdrawal from social situations.
Therapy and medication can help improve symptoms so it’s important to seek help if you suspect you or a loved one is suffering from it.

It’s important to note: people with schizotypal PD may experience psychotic episodes with delusions and hallucinations, it is a separate diagnosis to schizophrenia, as the episodes are not as frequent or intense. People with this disorder can be made aware of reality whereas those with schizophrenia cannot.

Schizoid personality disorder is a “cluster A” personality disorder.
Individuals with this disorder avoid social interactions and have a limited range of emotional expression. The disorder may cause the individual to have trouble performing well in school/work.

It’s important to note that schizoid personality disorder is NOT the same as schizotypal personality disorder or schizophrenia. Unlike these other two disorders an individual with schizoid personality disorder is in touch with reality and are unlikely to experience hallucinations.

Talk therapy and medication may help someone with schizoid personality disorder improve their quality of life. So it’s important to seek help.

Paranoid personality disorder (PPD) is a cluster A personality disorder marked by a long-term pattern of distrust and suspicion of others without adequate reason to be suspicious (paranoia). People with PPD often believe that others are trying to demean, harm or threaten them.

The thinking and behaviors associated with PPD can interfere with a person's ability to maintain relationships, as well as their ability to function socially and in work situations.

Psychotherapy treatment can sometimes allow a person with PPD to learn more productive ways of dealing with situations.

Dissociative identity disorder.

Dissociative identity disorder aka multiple personality is a type of dissociative disorder. Dissociative disorders result in a disconnection and lack of continuity between thoughts, memories, surroundings, actions and identity. This type of disorder usually develops in response to trauma.

Dissociative identity disorder is a severe form of dissociation which is characterized by switching between alternate identities. Each identity may have a unique name, personal history and characteristics. It’s a rarest of all dissociative disorders, but there are still many people out there that suffer from this disorder. It’s real, it’s scary for the person and for their loved ones. But treatment may help the individual cope with the disorder and help them lead healthy and productive lives.

Schizophrenia by .sketches

Schizophrenia is a severe mental health condition that causes a range of psychological symptoms. It is described as a type of “psychosis” meaning the individual has difficulties distinguishing between their own thoughts and reality.

Symptoms include hallucinations and delusions and confused thoughts due to these.

It’s a very misunderstood condition with many myths surrounding it. It’s important to note someone with schizophrenia does not have a split personality and is not necessarily violent.

Whilst there is no cure. A combination of medication and therapy can help manage the condition and improve quality of life.
