We're excited to share with our community that after six years of self-funding, we are ready to move up a notch. TalkMatters is now a registered charity under the wings of the Abrahamic Reunion England (ARE). This collaboration provides us with the ability to apply for funds in the UK and to accept donations while maintaining and preserving our independence. Like TalkMatters, the ARE has a commitment to the ideals of community, cooperation, friendship and peace among the people of Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

We have already started to apply for funds and thanks to the generosity of the Leo & Betty Gruss Charitable Trust, we are hosting a speaking tour with the The Freddie Krivine Initiative. We are speaking at the House of Commons, places of worship and to younger generations.

We believe it is particularly important to empower the next generation with the knowledge, confidence and sense of purpose needed to engage thoughtfully with Israel Palestine and to help transform perspectives and contribute to a significant change for the future.

Our purpose has never faltered.

Despite the catastrophic Hamas massacre, Gaza, Iran, Hezbollah, Lebanon - the complete turmoil in the Middle East - we have kept going. TalkMatters - Jews and Arabs Together has successfully raised the profile in the UK of many of the cooperative grassroots initiatives that enable Jewish and Arab Palestinian citizens of Israel as well as Palestinian and Jewish residents in the Palestinian Territories to meet, talk and slowly build up trust.

We want to do more and with your support, we can. Join us for our first fund raising event happening on Sunday 21 June: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/talkmatters/2147579?fbclid=IwVERDUARN-91leHRuA2FlbQIxMABzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAwzNTA2ODU1MzE3MjgAAR7kerNkBWe73WaEWHb8iwAmSxRaJuKV-Kl0ZXgwtMxk_IzVIQFC-VRmsF1MxA_aem_QjWm-Fal9XRhBCuV2upTxw

Join us for a special Strawberries & Cream Tea on Sunday 21st June, taking place in a North West London venue 🎉

We warmly invite you to join us for this special celebration, marking six extraordinary and rollercoaster years of supporting grassroots cooperative initiatives that bring Israeli Jews and Arabs together to build a shared future.

These inspiring initiatives span music, ecology, hi-tech, and religion – bridging divides, fostering meaningful relationships, and creating common ground to improve lives across communities. Despite fear and uncertainty as the conflict continues, TalkMatters remains committed to raising the profile in the UK of those working courageously toward partnership and hope.

To mark the occasion, we are delighted to host Lee Wilson and Riham Namle from the The Freddie Krivine Initiative (FKI). The FKI brings Arab and Jewish children together to learn, play tennis, and simply have fun - proving that sport has the capacity to unite. Their work offers a powerful example of what is possible when people choose partnership over division and how initiatives like this can help shape a more hopeful future for Jewish–Arab relations both within Israel and beyond.

All funds raised from this event will go directly toward sustaining and expanding our work. Until now, this initiative has been entirely self-funded, but to continue this important work we need your help.

We very much hope you can join us for what promises to be a meaningful and uplifting afternoon. If you’re unable to attend, we would be extremely grateful if you would consider making a donation in support of our work.

Tickets are now on sale via tickettailor and if you can’t make it but would like to support us anyway, our donation page is now live too.

Fantastic to hear from Spirit of the Galilee of the recent gatherings and celebrations in these difficult times.

Under the shadow of war, they celebrated the holiday of Eid El Fiter, the culmination of the month of Ramadan, which fell a few days before the celebration of the New Moon of Nissan that ushers in Passover, the Holiday of Spring.

Featured in this newsletter are blessings from Co-Directors Rabbi Leora Ezrachi-Vered and Abuna Sabba Haj, as well as, a poignant holiday prayer from Spirit of the Galilee member Kefaia Masarwy.

Civil society and peace activists from Israel and Palestine were meant to gather in London today for the International Peace Fund Conference — to discuss real steps toward peace, and explore the British Government’s commitment to the Israel–Palestine Peace Fund. But with the ongoing war, that event has been postponed.

Tonight, we’re bringing part of that conversation to you online with a special Zoom session featuring residents of Neve Shalom ~ Wahat al-Salam, a Village where Israelis and Palestinians live and work together peacefully. Hear firsthand what is happening there, ask questions, and learn how peace is being built on the ground.

Despite renewed fear and anxiety as the war persists, the Vivian Silver Awards are going ahead on Sunday March 22nd. There's still time - click on the link to register https://lnkd.in/dWZ-Jxvi

Vivian Silver worked with at least two of the initiatives that TalkMatters supports - Women Wage Peace, the interfaith grassroots organization created by Arab and Jewish Israeli women and Road To Recovery, volunteer Israeli drivers going to and fro the checkpoints to take Arab children and their guardians to Israeli hospitals.

Vivian was murdered by Hamas during the massacre of her kibbutz, Be’eri, on 7 October 2023

Vivian was a universally admired Jewish Israeli peace activist who advocated for Palestinian rights.

In the course of her 50+ years of activism and leadership, she worked with the New Israel Fund, B’tselem, and many other organizations to nurture civil society, advocate for human rights, end the Occupation, and achieve a negotiated peace agreement.

In 2000, Vivian and Amal Elsana Alh’jooj established AJEEC—NISPED, the Arab-Jewish Centre for Equality Empowerment and Cooperation. Their partnership was embedded in the shared vision of a world in which Bedouin and Jewish women could cultivate genuine connection.

Sorry to say the speakers from The Abraham Initiatives and נשים עושות שלום - نساء يصنعن السلام - Women Wage Peace cannot travel from Israel. The events on Monday and Wednesday are postponed. But their work bringing people together to build trust for a better world is more important than ever. TalkMatters is determined to continue to support them and the many other initiatives that fulfil this mission despite the increased fear and tension in the area.
