I am a Successful Seafarer, Then What Next?

At 55 years old, I am a seasoned Captain with almost 35 years at sea. My journey has been long and demanding, filled with both triumphs and challenges. However, despite my success, I find myself reflecting deeply on my life and purpose.

For nearly three and a half decades, I have navigated the world's oceans, facing the relentless waves and unpredictable weather. My career has been a testament to resilience and dedication. Yet, the cost of this journey has been immense. I spend 10 months onboard and only 2 months on vacation in average. While my family enjoys comfort and happiness, I bear the weight of fatigue and stress.

There are moments when I question my reasons for being here. What is my purpose? Is it solely to support my family? What about my own dreams and aspirations? These questions haunt me as I ponder my life choices. I love my family deeply, and their well-being has always been my priority, but at what personal cost?

To my juniors and those who aspire to follow in my footsteps, I urge you to plan your future wisely. Do not find yourself at 55 still on this path without a clear plan for your life beyond the sea. Invest in your future, save wisely, and explore opportunities that allow you to achieve a balance between professional success and personal fulfillment. Remember, life is too short to be spent only working without enjoying the fruits of your labor.

The title of Captain is undoubtedly prestigious, but it does not guarantee the life you deserve. True success is not measured by rank or title but by the quality of life you lead and the fulfillment you find in your journey. Learn from my experience, and strive to create a future where you can achieve both professional excellence and personal happiness.

While I take pride in my accomplishments, I urge the next generation to seek more than just success at sea. Aim for a life where your hard work translates into not only comfort for your loved ones but also satisfaction and happiness for yourself. Plan ahead, invest in your future, and ensure that you can enjoy the fruits of your labor both now and in the years to come. Life is too short to be spent in perpetual sacrifice—seek a balance that allows you to truly live.

Capiz GS back at camp, conducted SAVER’s training

With the undying love for the scouting and readiness to response in times of emergency, the Capiz Girl Scout Service Auxillary Volunteers for Emergency and Relief (SAVER) team recently concluded their 2-day training camp held at Maria’s Village and Aquafarm, Culajao, Roxas City on August 12-13.

With the theme, “Walking Together, Walking Far,” 23 Senior and Cadet Girl Scouts coming from different schools participated in the event together with their troop leaders.

“It was a very successful and productive training since the facilitators are active and approachable. The resource speakers are very energetic and gave us all necessary information, technique, and skills that we, our girls can apply and use in their daily lives,” Tita Karen of Cuartero National High School said.

The training camp highlights the sessions that focuses on the self defense and emergency preparedness that girls need and can be utilized in danger and hazard scenarios. The setting was a ‘feels like a camp’ because girls have to sleep in their tents in the venue’s feet- wide ground.

“I am so blessed to become one of the participants for this GSP SAVER’s Training and it’s my first time to join this kind of training. I think, I will join again. Mabuhay ang Capiz Girl Scouts,” Celine Margarette expressed.

The 2- day training camp is the first camp of the Capiz Girl Scout after restrictions for face to face events and outdoor activities due to COVID-19 pandemic. However, the SAVER’s team and Capiz Council pursued to make this event happen, not just for an ordinary camping, but for the reason of uplifting girl’s total well- being amidst this uncertain world.
