Open Day Saturday27th 11-2pm
The Heritage Centre Carpark 📍

Learn what the project is doing to protect Raasays nature and what you can do at home, including demonstrations from Those Weird Guys in Waterproofs showing different techniques to remove invasive Rhododendon and Japanese Knotweed.

I would also like to know what you think about the project and hear from anyone interested in this kind of work to help us plan for the next stages of the project.

There will be a small Gazebo to give shelter though do bring a rain jacket for demonstrations.

If this isn't your cup of tea, why not just come for a cuppa - which we'll provide, along with soup and light bites to eat.

Japanese Knotweed Control ⚠️

Following trials last year CNI will continue treatment to control Invasive Japanese Knotweed later this summer.

To be effective the treatment must be applied once the plant has flowered(usually July onwards). As we have a limited amount of funding so will prioritise sites:

1. Vulnerable to spreading(roadsides etc)
2. Community and Public Land
3. Private Property

A funding application has been submitted to treat all knotweed(and pampas grass) on the island.

What you can do:
• Do not cut or disturb knotweed; A piece the size of your fingernail can turn into a new plant!
• Note where you see knotweed; We will soon launch a survey for people to report knotweed.
• Control it if on your own land; If you want to learn more about this come along to the open day this Saturday 27th June

Here's an update on what Carbon Neutral Islands(CNI) has been up to. It takes a look back at how CNI has evolved over the past few years, where our current focuses are, and what you can expect coming up.

I would also like to thank Carwyn for his enthusiasm and contributions over the last 9 months as he is now moving on from CNI.

Protecting our marine habitats emerged as a top community priority and we plan to investigate how we can do more on this over the coming year.

Pictured - Kelp - Which borders much of Raasay shores. Kelp was was once harvested to harvested for its high amouunt of nutrients and minerals. It provides a shelter for much marine life and even helps break up the force of waves hitting the shore. For those inclined it, it makes a rich umani addition to food dishes.
