I always feel like there’s no way I can properly convey the magnitude of difference that’s made in a young person or family’s life when people come together with every level and type of resources ❤️
SO MANY of you SHOWED UP for the single Dad of 3 that we’re supporting. Whether you donated a box of dishes, a shower curtain, a mattress, a nightstand or a couch, you were part of filling a home for four humans who had nothing but clothing, personal items and some linens.
After losing Mom to an overdose and being by Dad’s side as he got sober, the kids spent nearly 2 years living in a shelter with Dad. In addition to caring for 3 kids, he’s maintained his sobriety for over 2.5 years and works part-time. He was finally able to save up enough money for an apartment and succeeded in finding one, which is a FEAT in Boston- especially for those with low incomes.
Countless drop offs, pick ups, and deliveries of every piece of furniture big and small and every small appliance, box of cookware, dishes and a million other things. Monetary donations that allowed us to provide all the move-in basics like waste bins, cleaning products, tools, hooks, cutting boards, oven kits, knives, etc etc. We even raised enough to surprise them with a NEW washing machine to go with the dryer that was donated, and installation will be covered by LiKen, Inc. This will save them hundreds of dollars a year and free up several full days a month that they usually have to spend at the laundromat.
We got them a Christmas tree, and donations of decorations have come in. The kids will also have 4 extra gifts each on top of what they’re getting from an agency through the homeless shelter they’ve been living in, and yesterday I got stocking stuffers for all 3 kids.
And the real miracle is that all this happened a week before Christmas, when everybody reading this message right now is flat out with work, kids, and massive To Do lists.
I know there are more people who want to help, and you still can! Most importantly, the family doesn’t have a car, so they spend a lot on Lyfts and Ubers for Dad to get to work and back, for grocery shopping, etc., etc. etc. So, Uber or Lyft gift cards would be invaluable.
Happy holidays and infinite gratitude being sent out to our village today ❤️
