🩸 WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY 2026 – YOU ARE INVITED!🩸

The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Benue State Chapter, is proud to support the commemoration of World Sickle Cell Day 2026, organized by the Department of Haematology, Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, in collaboration with the Young Warriors Initiative.

This year’s theme, “Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease” highlights the urgent need to ensure that every individual living with sickle cell disease has access to quality care, support, and opportunities to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Join us for an enlightening and engaging symposium featuring:

MWAN BENUE COMMEMORATES WORLD MENSTRUATION HYGIENE DAY, 2026

The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria , Benue State Chapter commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene,Day 2026 on the 5th of June, 2026,
In collaboration with other partners under the project tag ,"1000 Girls Dignified and Confident,"

This year's theme ," Together for a period friendly world," was apt.
As the association went to 3 schools with the aim of reaching underprivileged girls in Makurdi, Benue State.
These schools were
1. UBE , Wadata
2. Aliyu Mohammed Jama'a Memorial Arabic School, Wadata
3. UBE Ichwa , North Bank.

1,148 sanitary pads were distributed, inclusive of non- reusable and reusable pads.
Menstruation , menstrual hygiene, demystifying myths to boys inclusive and advocating to school heads for better sanitary conditions to suit menstruating girls.
In addition, an onsite survey was carried out, with questionnaires administered in each school to objectively guide the association in advocating for better laws and needs specific for this population.

MWAN Benue relentlessly appreciates, Prior MWAN Benue members now in Diaspora who supported this project and friends of MWAN Benue.

MWAN Benue Commemorates World Hypertension Day, with a One Day Outreach to Widows in Gboko, in Honor of The Paramount ruler, TOR TIV, HRM. PROF. J.O.I AYATSE, CFR.

On the 30th of May, MWAN Benue carried out a one day outreach to widows to mark world hypertension day,2026, in honor of The Begha U Tiv, TOR TIV's 70th birthday.
This activity began with a courtesy visit to HRM. PROF. J.O.I AYATSE, CFR & To the Queen HRM. PROF. F.H. AYATSE ably led the President of the association.

The President appreciated HRM, The TOR TIV, and HRM The Queen , 'The Ngo U Tiv' of the TIV people globally for the rare privilege to pay a courtesy visit and specifically on a Saturday, while outlining the roles they have played in instituting laws that protect women and children and their tremendous contributions to their people.
She highlighted MWAN's goals .
The TOR TIV responded by acknowledging the association and promised to work with the association .

The Medical outreach was coordinated by the President and chairman for this year's world hypertension Day, carried out at the Gboko LG council secretariat. Detailed health education was given to the widows, blood pressure, and other basic tests done with consultation by specialist doctors and medications given, which covered not only antihypertensives but varied medical conditions. All services given were free.

The Widows received all these with excitement as food and transport stipends were also given to them by The Tor Tiv & The Ngo U Tiv.

Over 400 widows were attended to.
The team constituted 26 members, of which 9 were doctors( MWAN Benue members)

1. Pharmaceuticals who partnered with some antihypertensives: Fidson Pharmaceuticals, Swipha & Zobif Pharmaceuticals.
2. She also appreciates the tireless efforts of the team members.
3. MWAN Benue deeply appreciates " The Begha U Tiv" The Tor Tiv, HRM PROF. J.O.I AYATSE, CFR, and "The Ngo u Tiv" HRM. PROF F.H AYATSE, sponsor WHD, 2026, and their sacrifices for vulnerable groups, such as widows.

MWAN Benue Commemorates World No To***co Day 2026

Today, MWAN Benue joins the global community in commemorating World No To***co Day 2026, with the theme:

“Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction.”

This year’s theme highlights the growing tactics used by the to***co and ni****ne industries to attract young people. Through appealing flavours, attractive packaging, and misleading marketing, harmful and highly addictive products are being presented as fashionable and harmless.

According to global reports, at least 40 million children aged 13–15 years currently use one or more to***co products. Among them, 20 million smoke ci******es, 10 million use smokeless to***co, and at least 15 million adolescents use e-ci******es. In many countries, children are up to nine times more likely than adults to v**e.

At MWAN Benue, we are committed to protecting children, adolescents, and communities from the dangers of to***co and ni****ne addiction. We support efforts to:

• Raise awareness about the health risks of to***co, ni****ne products, and e-ci******es.
• Advocate for stronger policies that protect young people from industry targeting and harmful products.
• Prevent addiction and reduce demand through education, advocacy, and community engagement.

Together, we can build a healthier future by empowering young people to make informed choices and live to***co-free lives.
