Sedgefield Ploggers

28/07/2026

Thanks to everyone who joined us at short notice for this morning's pond plog, and to Alex from Durham County Council's Clean and Green team who brought loads of handy equipment, including extra long grabbers.

We put it all to very good use and collected a big haul of rubbish, some of which must have been lurking for years! A few of us also 'collected' a substantial coating of very sticky mud. 😃

A reminder that we have a pond plog this morning. If you're around and available, you'll be very welcome to join us! 😃

SHORT NOTICE POND PLOG

Thanks to prolonged dry weather, water levels are very low in the two main ponds in Sedgefield, which has revealed a fair bit of litter. Ever the litter picking opportunists, we contacted Durham County Council to suggest teaming up for a tidy up and we're delighted that the council's Clean and Green team will join us for a special 'Pond Plog' this week. Clean and Green will bring some extra long grabbers, and we'll be there with our usual kit.

It's short notice, but we hope that some keen ploggers can join us to pick up what we can safely collect from in and around the two ponds. Everyone will be welcome! 😀

We had a small team out this morning (and lost one of us along the way!), but we managed to collect a decent haul ahead of the Mayor of Sedgefield's Civic Service at St. John Fisher Church. 😃

Don't forget our plog on Sunday, ahead of the Mayor of Sedgefield's Civic Service. Everyone will be welcome! 😃

Our next plog returns to a Sunday, but at a slightly earlier time than usual. We'll give Sedgefield a tidy up ahead of the mayor welcoming residents and visiting dignitaries for her civic service in St. John Fisher later that morning.

Everyone will be welcome! 😃

COMMUNITY LITTER PICKS TODAY AND TOMORROW

If anyone is looking for another opportunity to do tidy up our community ahead of our plog next Sunday, Jo Foy of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust will lead litter picks near Sedgefield Community Hospital over the next two days:

Wednesday 15th July - 4:00-6:00pm
Thursday 16th July - 7:00-8:30am.

Jo will have litter picking equipment for anyone who wants to join her at any point.

What a beautiful morning for a plog! We collected a decent haul from around the centre of Sedgefield as the sun shone down on us. 😃
