A post from Jacob about the latest fundraising for Guiseley Theatre!

Guiseley theatre has hosted our monthly grief cafe since 2019( just managed a couple of cafes before Covid) they have never been anything less than helpful and supportive to widening conversations about grief and bereavement.

We wish them the best of luck with this fundraising. We have been able to see and feel the vast improvement already made! Still so much more to do 😊👏👏👏👏🎭

Looking forward to our next grief cafe atGuiseley Theatre tomorrow , Friday 22nd May 2-3.30pm. You do not need to book or have an appointment, just turn up - you will be very welcome. 😊

We know how hard it can feel to walk through a new door, everybody at the cafe is bereaved, all at different stage in their own life journey with grief. You will be welcomed with a smile.

No one will try to fix your grief, expect listening, conversation, smiles, tears, laughter -all normal😊we are just by the side of each other as we move forward, whilst having a cup of tea and perhaps a slice of cake .

There is no pressure to talk, sometimes just being with others who totally understand is enough. We move forward in life and take our people with us in our thoughts, hearts and conversations.

Tomorrow we will also be replanting the baskets for the front of the theatre, so if you want to do a bit of indoor gardening don’t forget your gardening gloves! This is in addition to the cafe with no obligation to join in, it will be in an adjoining room🪴

Guiseley Theatre has been so supportive of Good Grief Guiseley since 2019 when we held our first grief cafe there. . This is just a little thank you 🌹💐🌺🌷🌼xx

💚 Connection changes everything 💚

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the small moments that make a big difference.

A lift to a club.
A friendly phone call.
Sharing a laugh over biscuits.
Helping at an activity.
Simply being there.

At AVSED, we see every day how the power of community and keeping in touch can support wellbeing — for our members, volunteers and staff alike.

Sometimes, even the brightest personality in the room can be masking how they’re really feeling. That’s why checking in, listening, and creating spaces where people feel supported matters so much.

We’re also proud to have a Mental Health First Aider within our staff team, helping to ensure support, understanding and signposting are always available when needed.

Looking after others is important, but so is looking after yourself 💜

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers, staff and supporters who help make AVSED such a caring and connected community.

We have been talking, at the grief cafe, . about the importance and benefit of knowing the choices when thinking about our own funeral. Also how we are all different

Ruth and I recently went to a death cafe held in Bradford library to experience and join in the conversation. They are held monthly. The conversation was varied, flowed freely and was so positive. We came away feeling supported with new information and ideas. It was good to talk , ask questions and hear from others in a safe informal space.

During this years dying matters week on Friday 8th May at 10.30 am Full Circle Funerals Guiseley will be hosting a relaxed and informal Death cafe 10.30-12md to discuss, ask questions and find out more information. No need to book, the kettle will be on 😊

Dying Matters Week 2026 – Let’s Talk About Death and Dying

This week marks Dying Matters Week, a national campaign encouraging open conversations about death, dying and bereavement.

Our friends at Full Circle Funerals, understand and believe these conversations matter. They help people feel more prepared, more supported, and more connected to what’s important.

On Friday 8th May at 10.30am they will be hosting a Death Café at Full Circle Funerals, Guiseley, LS20 8LZ

Death Cafés are a global movement that invite people to drink tea eat cake and talk about death. As a funeral directors, they know how to do all of those things, and would like to invite anyone who is interested to come and do that with them in a safe space.

No booking necessary, just drop on by.
