Today, we wanted to take the time to say our appreciation for our executive director,
Lindsay Debassige (she/they)!

Lindsay intentionally builds spaces where 2SIQTI youth feel steady, welcomed, and free to be themselves. ✨🌈

They lead with care that’s practical and felt. From conversations that include everyone, to plans that match our capacity, and mentorship that lifts people up and walks beside them. 🫂

Their approach keeps our programs rooted in the North by respecting the Land and the people who gather on it.

We’re grateful for the laughter, the steadiness, and the vision Lindsay brings to our community every day. 💜💕🌲✨

Meet the QCNWT Staff 🌈
We’re the team behind Qmunity Camp NWT!
We're creating spaces for 2SIQTIP youth to connect, learn, and grow on the Land.

Lindsay Debassige (She/Her/They/Them) is our Executive Director! They lead with care and respect for everyone who joins us, grounding our spaces, working authentically, and making sure everybody feels welcome.

Cheyenne Haogak (Any/All) is our camp coordinator. They support each camp session and have been part of every one since Qmunity Camp first began! Starting out as a camper, and growing into their current role today.

Together, we’re here to nurture our community and keep building what’s possible in the North. 💫

Qmunity Camp NWT uses the 2SIQTIP acronym, and we wanted to share some information for you to know how we got it and why we use it!

2SIQTIP stands for "Two-Spirit, Indigiq***r, Q***r & Trans Indigenous Peoples."

We use this acronym to refer to Two-Spirit folks, Indigiq***r folks, and all of our Indigenous kin who experience gender and/or sexuality outside of colonial binaries.

Some people think that the Two-Spirit label can be used in this way, but it is not the same. It's its own identity defined and shaped individually by the Indigenous people who use it and the nations who embrace it.

This label can't be used to address all q***r or trans Indigenous person as not every one identifies with Two-Spirit. This is why we use the 2SIQTIP acronym- To be intentional about referring to our Indigenous kin with these experiences.

Qmunity Camp NWT is a space where Two Spirit, Indigiq***r, Q***r and Transgender Indigenous youth can gather, celebrate and explore identity, culture and wellbeing embraced by their community of on the Land.

It's important to us to be intentional about the language we use because currently, we are the only organization in the North providing affirming and Indigenous-focused on the Land programming specifically for Indigenous youth who identify as 2SLGBTQIPA+ and/or are questioning. 🌈💜✨🌲
