Surf therapy 🌊 because it gives her space to use everything already strong within her.

Strength-based programming begins with the athlete -> communication, what builds trust, what helps her feel secure, what brings her JOY and how she learns best. Then the coaches, team, equipment and environment adjust around her, not the other way around.

In this surf clinic, support list = trusted coaches beside her, FAMILY sharing the wave, and freedom to EXPERIENCE the speed, flow, and carving for herself.

Outdoor recreation creates its own kind of evidence:
I CAN try this.
I CAN communicate what I need.
I CAN move through something new.
I BELONG here.
Confidence confirmed through lived experience.

Inclusion is not inviting someone to watch from the shoreline. It is building the conditions to be in the boat, on the board, in the photographs and at the center of her own story.

Our goal is never simply to welcome new surfers. It is to create another pathway back to the outdoors—and forward into every space we all have the right to occupy.

Access starts before anyone ever reaches the shoreline.
Before families enter Water Term, we review each child’s Strength-Based Profile to better understand communication styles, regulation needs, learning preferences, and what support would help this experience feel safe, successful, and empowering.

That preparation shapes everything, from board positioning, to who modeled first, to when we slowed the pace or adjusted instruction in real time.

For one scholar, repetition and visual modeling helps build confidence. For another, space to move at their own pace creates room to work through fear without pressure.

What may look simple on the water is often the result of thoughtful planning, relationship-based coaching, and an environment designed to reduce overwhelm before it begins.

This is what inclusive outdoor programming looks like in practice.

One that honors each participant’s strengths, supports regulation, and creates a path for participation.

Sometimes access looks like adaptive equipment. Sometimes it looks like pacing, predictability, familiar modeling, and coaches who know when to pause, pivot, and meet a child where they are.

When a site coordinator asks if we can keep the scholars out longer, we know something good is happening.
They’re settling in. Taking another lap. Getting braver with every paddle stroke.
That’s why our access model is based on multi-week courses. It means enough time to learn the gear, trust the water, and begin to see the outdoors as a place that belongs to them, too.
Sometimes growth looks like asking for 30 more minutes.
We’ll celebrate that.

We take our job as fun slingers serious with developing outdoor curriculum around games with aims. Always keeping it 99 + 1

Coach Kelsey remains undefeated but we still have half of summer to go. These scholars are gunnin’ for the title.

Yesterday with the OPS Migrant Program, we got to do what Camp Outpost was built to do: hand kids a paddle, pass around good food, make room at the table, and let Mother Nature do what she does best.
There was kayaking. SUP. Campfire cooking. Slackline attempts. Full heart energy.
We talk a lot about being ambassadors of fun and days like these remind us we’re also ambassadors of welcome, of wild places, and of the kind of America we’re proud as heck to represent.

The best part?
Every scholar who completes a Camp Outpost program earns an Alumni Pass, giving them free access to come back every Monday and Thursday with a loved one. Confidence doesn’t end when the bus pulls away. Neither should belonging.
We believe the impact happens when today’s first paddle stroke becomes next month’s family paddle, when a young person becomes the one showing a parent, sibling, grandparent, or friend how to get on a board. That’s how confidence compounds. That’s how community ripples outward.

Heart strings: pulled.
Paddles: moving.
Mother Nature: still the best classroom we know.
