It's here! Our very own canal owner's manual -- available for everyone who lives in BV, Original BV and Omega Bay. You will find answers to a lot of your questions in here -- when is it safe to swim, can I feed the ducks, etc. Many thanks to Andy McCloskey, BV City Council Member, for driving the printing process for us. Copies are free to residents and will be available in the BV City Hall. We will also begin posting information from the manual on this FB page.

What can you do to help protect the water quality in our canal system? #1 -- Remember that anything (and everything) that is in our yards and on our streets has the potential to be carried into the canals. F***l matter (AKA dog p**p) contains bacteria that can make people sick. We can step on it and bring it into our homes. Or it can be washed from our yards into the canals. Even if you walk your dog in the grassy median, that goes directly into the canals when it rains. One instance isn't a problem, but we are a good-sized community that loves its pets. Please be aware of the impact the f***l matter can have on the canals.

Another way we can prevent pollutants from entering our canal system is to install a RAIN BARREL to capture rain and other run-off before it gets to the canal. Galveston Bay Foundation has a wonderful rain barrel program where you can get your own rain barrel and instructions for installation. They will host a workshop on JANUARY 27. See GBF's website at https://galvbay.org/event/rain-barrel-workshop-5/ . The cost is minimal and the value long-term.

Well..... Your water quality committee wants to humbly apologize for not keeping this FB page updated for the last several months. However, we were very excited to be able to present to the Saltwater Garden Club last week with maps, data, plans and information you can use. So hopefully this post will kick off the new year with information to help keep our canal system healthy. First -- check out the FB page for Saltwater Garden Club for photos and information from that meeting. And we will begin some regular posting on this page.
