We had a very interesting & informative talk this week, by Helen the chair of Staffordshire Search & Rescue. They are a voluntary organisation, which support the police in finding lowland (between mountain & coast) lost people. They have a dedicated fully trained team of approximately 85 volunteers, 4x4's, boats & dogs to help them. They are mainly called to find lost mental health people, but any person lost e.g. children in lakes.
Our competition was a navigation device; we had a number of maps from Michelin, Ordinance survey and specific walks. Sonia was the winner of the Hyacinths, with her mobile phone & map. It is always a good idea to have a back up, when you are out & about.

01/01/2026

Wishing you a Happy and Health 2026.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 14th January at 7.30 in the village hall. We have a talk from Staffordshire search & rescue and the competition is a navigation item.

Our wreath making workshop, kept members busy. Karen demonstrated the numerous possibilities for creating a wreath for autumn & Christmas, which all looked very attractive. Our members then created their own lovely wreaths. Well done.
The competition was a flower ornament, which was won by Carol, with a ceramic primrose trinket box.

Members enjoyed an afternoon Curling. There were two teams; the reds & blues. The competition started off with blues running away with the scores. By half time, the reds were only two points behind. Refreshments, of homemade sausage rolls, cup cakes, muffins & scones, which were all so lovely. A cuppa and a chat, then it was the final leg. The scores didn't appear to matter now, as they continued to run close. The banter, of landing on the target and knocking the opposition's stone off was the competition and fun we all enjoyed.

For our August meeting we had an interesting local speaker Rose, a reflexologist. She told us all about the history and application of this therapy. Rose also introduced her natural skin products, which she markets under the name of The Good Zest Company.
The competition was a cup & saucer, we had an excellent amount of entries, Margaret came out the winner.
