Our Story

Too many young people get trapped in the vicious cycle of homelessness. With no permanent address, they can’t get a job. And without a job, they can’t get a permanent address.

Equal Footings aims to break that cycle – and we’re starting in Brighton and Hove.

The city has one of the highest proportions of homelessness in the UK, with about 150 people currently homeless – around 40 of whom are between 16 and 21.

Enabling Independant Living

We build homes and provide jobs for some of the most vulnerable young people in our society. We provide mentoring and employment to smooth their transition into adulthood.

By providing a safe place to call ‘home’ and vital life skills, we can steer young people towards successful, independent living

Equal Footings is a non-profit organisation reliant on volunteers & fundraising.

We acquire property that is either gifted or provided to us on a long-term lease. We then design and build suitable accommodation to house around 20 people in each of our projects.

We work closely with our strategic partner, the YMCA DOWNSLINK GROUP who provide specialist operational management support.

At the same time, our mentors and career advisors will work closely with them to build the skills and confidence they needed for success in the workplace.

By drawing on our business network, we help our residents to secure jobs. As active, contributing members of the local community, they can feel valued and empowered.
