Hearth is a truly unique arts programme, bringing creativity directly into the homes of older people through weekly one-to-one workshops, facilitated by a skilled artist and tailored to each individual in the comfort of their own home.

The resulting Hearth exhibition is now running in the Courtyard Gallery in Castlebar, Co.Mayo and celebrates the power of the arts to uplift the human spirit. All of the artworks are connected like a map of creativity, each glowing point representing a person discovering the artist within.

Check out these beautiful artworks now at the gallery and read more here: https://www.creativeireland.gov.ie/en/event/hearth-exhibition/

Hearth is a project that brings art into the homes of older people. Hearth has been running in Mayo for several years, and in 2024 and 2025, we have had the opportunity to expand the programme into County Roscommon and County Fermanagh through Creative Ireland Creative communities and Shared Island Initiatives. A collective of twelve artists across these counties visit older people in their home every week opening up creative conversations, writing and making art.
