The Enviro Crew is concerned about the excess salt on our sidewalks and its toxic effects on the environment. If you see a pile of salt like this, please send us a photo and the location. We may be able to fix this problem by suggesting some changes in practice.

"Note that the recommended application rate is about 2 tablespoons per square metre or a coffee mug of salt for a driveway. Salt works to prevent ice buildup through a chemical reaction. Don’t use it like grit."

In addition to milk and bread bags, their tabs, and egg cartons, I'm now hoping to collect the plastic film dry cleaners use to protect clean clothing. It'll be used at the pottery studio to keep clay moist until it's ready to be fired. Bin is on the front porch at 90 Aylmer Avenue. Thanks!

On Sunday, I took 15 insulating pads to Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary. They'll become beds for healing animals. Thanks Steve for telling me about these pads used by Chef's Plate to keep food deliveries cool in summer and thanks Bethany for bringing a pile of them from your daughter.

Please think twice before discarding items like this. You never know who can use them and for what.

The Enviro Crew will be collecting clean odd socks for this project at its twice-yearly big collection. This one's at Brewer Park on Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring us your socks and we'll pass them along to be made into new products.
