Research shows girls' interest in STEM often peaks around age 11, then starts to decline if it isn't nurtured and reinforced.

The good news: small moments matter. A teacher who says "you're good at this," a hands-on project that sparks curiosity, a mentor who looks like them, these can shift the trajectory.

Here's what we know works: girls who know a woman in STEM are far more likely to feel confident pursuing it themselves, and girls who get hands-on STEM experience before high school are 50% more likely to major in it in college.

The gap isn't about talent. It's about access and encouragement, and we can close it.

Stella is an educator from the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, and the founder and CEO of Out International, an organization championing teacher development and well-being across Ghana. In 2022, she was named Ghana's Most Outstanding Teacher at the Ghana Teacher Prize, and her impact has since gone global, she's been shortlisted for the $1 million Global Teacher Prize by the Varkey Foundation and UNESCO.

Stella will be joining us to share a global perspective on the power and purpose of STEM education — bringing her passion for teaching, mentorship, and community all the way from Ghana, West Africa to our Squad.

We're honored to welcome Victor Hicks, Founder, CEO, and Lead Instructor of Coding with Culture, as our keynote speaker for STEM Squad: Assemble, our STEM Educators Online Back-to-School Bash! Join us Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM ET.

After 20 years in education as a teacher, coach, and HBCU-focused competitive step coach, Victor moved to Atlanta to join a school launching its elementary computer science program. That realization became his mission, leading him to found Coding with Culture, bridging the gap between computer science and the communities it should serve.
