Team Abell β Celebrating 10 Years of Fundraising
This year marks an incredible milestone for Team Abell as we celebrate 10 years of fundraising in support of the Colchester Neonatal Unit.
Throughout the summer, you'll often find us at events across Colchester, selling homemade cakes, running our ever-popular tombola, and challenging brave visitors to a game of Splat the Rat. We also provide catering for a couple of functions during the year, helping us raise even more money for a cause that is very close to our hearts.
At the centre of it all is Debbie, the driving force behind Team Abell. She is our organiser, chief baker, event planner, problem solver, and chief motivator rolled into one. From baking countless homemade cakes to coordinating events and keeping the team running smoothly, Debbie somehow manages it all. What makes her dedication even more remarkable is that she does it while facing her own mobility and health challenges, never allowing them to stand in the way of helping others.
Team Abell began its journey ten years ago alongside our grandparents and my uncle. Although they are no longer with us, their spirit remains at the heart of everything we do. We continue fundraising in their memory, carrying forward the values of kindness, community, and generosity that they inspired in us.
While fundraising is very much a family effort, there is no doubt that Team Abell would not be what it is today without our matriarch, Debbie. Her determination, enthusiasm, and seemingly endless supply of cakes keep us going year after year. She reminds us that making a difference isn't about having perfect circumstances it's about having a big enough heart to help where you can.
Here's to ten wonderful years of Team Abell, to the memories that inspire us, the community that we try to support, and, of course, to Debbie the woman who proves that behind every successful fundraising team is someone making sure everyone has a slice of cake and a job to do.
