Parents in the Clark County School District favored modest tweaks to school start times in district surveys — but the plan announced by district administrators this week makes a far bigger move.

After gathering input from thousands of community members, CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert announces today at a press conference changes to school start times for the 2026-2027 school year.

To maximize learning at every grade level, CCSD has set the following start times for the 26-27 school year:
* Middle schools: 7:30 a.m.
* High schools: 8:30 a.m.
* Elementary schools: 9:15 a.m.

The first day of school for the 2026-2027 school year will be August 10, 2026.

Thank you, Nevada Board of Education for moving this forward to the state legislature! Other states across the country have done it and so can we!

Wonderful news for Nevada’s teens! The school start time survey results made it clear that our community wants healthy hours for our students. It is fantastic to see that Nevada is taking a step in the right direction, just as other states have done, moving toward getting legislation to protect our children’s health and well-being. Thank you to the Nevada State Board of Education for their efforts on the school start time issue, and for moving this along to our state legislators. If other states can do it, so can we!
