ECPAT International Ending the sexual exploitation of children. ECPAT is the only global network that is exclusively dedicated to protecting children from this crime.

ECPAT’s success and strength is based on a strong and large membership. Not one member is the same; we have researchers, advocates, campaigners, service providers, survivor-led organisations all tackling the sexual exploitation of children from different angles. Today, ECPAT has more than 124 members in over 104 countries.

We've rebuilt our website to bring together our resources, campaigns, and advocacy in one place—organised across seven focus areas to show how ECPAT’s work connects to our goal of ending the sexual exploitation of children.

Whether you're a practitioner looking for evidence and tools, or someone who wants to understand the issue and get involved, the site is built for you.

How players feel in your gaming community goes hand in hand with how—and if—they seek help.

In our survey with GamerSafer, players who described the Minehut community as welcoming or supportive were noticeably more likely to seek help in-platform when facing difficulties. But between the youngest and oldest age groups, positive feelings about the community and their willingness to ask for help declined among older teens.

What we gathered: Mid-adolescence (aged 15-17) stands out as a turning point where engagement strategies could be more nuanced.

Our recommendation: treat this age group as distinct and create dedicated spaces where they can build comfort around help-seeking even as they grow older.

Some players look elsewhere for support beyond your game, like their friends and family.

That doesn’t mean your platform has no role to play.

In our survey of almost 2,000 young Minehut players with GamerSafer, players facing personal struggles relied most on people close to them. Very few turned to hotlines or server staff.

Player safety has natural limitations within your platform. But this is a key opportunity for you to bridge the gap towards in-person specialised support.

One recommendation from our study: build resources that can help parents, educators, and other trusted adults have meaningful conversations with teens.

If your game’s community safety tools use AI, our new study shares a few considerations worth factoring in to make them safer and more inclusive for young players.

In our survey of almost 2,000 young Minehut players with GamerSafer, we found that players aged 13-17 are already turning to AI for much more than in-game help—like identity exploration and emotional support. And its usage shifts depending on age and gender.

This means that one AI tool can end up handling very different support needs. The problem? Not all AI tools are safe for youth, accurate, and free from gender-related biases.

Explore our recommendations for integrating AI into player support ethically and sensitively: https://ecpat.org/resource/designing-player-support-that-works-age-and-gender-considerations-in-platform-and-community-safety/

“They should listen to us. Even if we speak short, we know the truth.” — Mon, 17, boy, Egypt

Over the past few weeks, you’ve met some of the avatars created by children on the move—drawn from their own experiences of mobility.

Some had complicated journeys. Others were subjected to online harms. Many of them felt socially isolated.

But their stories also carried curiosity and hope for what comes next.

Omar Idris wants to help others. Maria dreams of opening a library. Nikolai is searching for a better future. Delua wants to feel safe online.

For the children who took part in our study, mobility represented a pathway to safety and opportunity.

Most games have a support ticket system or moderators. But having these features available isn't the same as players feeling comfortable using them.

We partnered with GamerSafer to ask nearly 2,000 child and youth Minehut players where they turn to when they need support.

The short answer: it depends on their age, gender identity, and whether the problem was game-related or about personal difficulties. Some players said they don’t seek help at all.

This is a blind spot most platforms rarely get insight into. Explore what we found, and what it means for designing support that players will actually use.

On 22 June, the European Union reached a landmark agreement to strengthen protections for children against sexual abuse and exploitation.

It’s a significant moment, and the result of four years of sustained advocacy by ECPAT International, our members across Europe, ECLAG, survivors, and fellow child rights organisations.

Throughout this process, we’ve pushed for the law to reflect the realities children and survivors face today—including new forms of abuse facilitated by technology, and the fact that disclosing abuse can take years, even decades, to happen.

Once adopted, this Directive will set the minimum standard for child protection across the EU. We’re calling on every Member State to build higher with stronger national measures.

ECPAT International stands ready to support Member States, European institutions, civil society partners and survivors in turning this landmark agreement into lasting progress for children.

Together, we can build child protection systems that prevent abuse, support healing, and ensure that every child can grow up free from sexual exploitation and abuse.

Meet Delua. She left her home in Egypt due to difficult living conditions in search of a brighter future.

For most of her journey, she relied on paper maps and borrowing people’s phones to let her family know she was safe.

Delua has always kept her digital world small. She avoids group chats and online communities, preferring to connect with family and friends over private messages.

To her, it feels safer and easier to control—even if it means missing out on what’s happening online.

But dangers don’t always appear as people.

After entering her details online to win a prize, Delua lost all her money. With her family far away, Delua turned to a refugee centre for support.

What Delua wants is simple: to learn from her experiences and navigate online spaces more confidently.

As you watch this video, ask yourself: What risks do we expect girls to face online? What risks might we be overlooking?

This animation was thoughtfully created by Rex Costello.

What risks do children on the move face online? Learn more in our new report: https://ecpat.org/resource/no-wi-fi-means-no-life-the-digital-lives-risks-and-protection-pathways-of-children-on-the-move/
