The next in our season of Autumn/Winter talks will take place on Thursday 12th February at 7.30pm at the Hook Memorial Hall, High Street, Hook. The guest speaker will be Peter Connelly and the subject will be Defending Hull! Excavations On The Site Of Henry VIII South Blockhouse – During the summer of 2022 the people of Hull, and the surrounding region, got involved in an archaeological project investigating the remains of the South Blockhouse, part of Hull’s eastern defences constructed under order of Henry VIII in 1541. This talk will tell the story of the dig, the information that was recovered from it and what the dig meant to the people who got involved, and visited the site.
Peter Connelly – Peter has worked in archaeology, mostly across a central swathe of northern England, for over 30 years. He is the manager of Humber Field Archaeology (HFA), who have been investigating the archaeology of the Humber region since the 1980’s. Peter is a great believer in the benefits that archaeology can bring to communities, and his talk will reflect this belief.
Entry is free to members, £3 to non members.
This event is made possible with support from the Drax Community Fund.
