đź’™ Please support Anand Milan Elderly Centre (Bradford) đź’™

I would like to nominate Anand Milan Elderly Centre for the Movement for Good Community Special Draw.

This wonderful centre provides a vital space for elderly people in our community, offering companionship, hot meals, social activities, cultural and religious support, and a place to help reduce loneliness and isolation.

They do incredible work supporting older members of the community to stay active, connected, and cared for. A small grant would make a big difference to their ongoing activities and services.

Thank you from Geeta Chudasama (Trustee)

Creative Session at AMEC

Today at AMEC we hosted a creative session led by Bradford Culture Company. The session was run by creative practitioner Tasha and producer Samina, and later we were joined by their manager, Gaby.

The project is bringing two communities together – St Wilfrid’s Church and AMEC – through creative activities, culminating in a joint outing for members to visit The Hepworth Wakefield.

Today’s activity focused on decorating pieces of jute bunting. Members got stuck in and created wonderful designs, full of colour and personality. Tasha will be joining all the pieces together and showcasing the finished bunting to centre members at the next session.

Everyone really enjoyed the activity and are looking forward to the next session with Bradford Culture Company.

A big thank you to our Creative Team volunteers who supported today: Kala, Reshma, Daksha, Rasmita, and Priya.

On this Cornwell trip we must say thank you to the following for making it a very special holiday.

Our coach driver Louise, from the moment we met her she was soo chilled out that started our journey on a good footing. She was incredibly flexible, very caring and helped us change the itinerary, so we were indoors when the weather was not kind to us.

She parked the coach very close the venues, so the Elderly didn’t have to walk a lot, helped them up and down the stairs and accommodated any requests we had.

She likes a challenge and drove the coach through very narrow roads so we could get the best views. Thank you so much, we will be seeing you again soon.

The hotel staff at Kilbirnie Hotel, Newquay were extremely helpful and friendly and made our stay there very special. One of the lady waitering staff said “it was a pleasure to serve your Elderly group, they were very respectful”

The staff made special birthday cakes, helped with the baggage, joined us on the dance floor and ensured we had an excellent stay. Thank you to Reception team, kitchen staff, waiters including David Carter for being so helpful.

Our members enjoyed the bingo, magician act and the Singers were great and we even managed to do garba. Special thanks to Rachel Best for putting on the garba tracks and joining in.

Yesterday, we all returned safely back from our Cornwall Trip.

A trip where new friendships were made, memories were created and a total feeling of togetherness as a big AMEC family was created.

Huge thank you to all the volunteers that helped over the 5 days including Gulabbhai, Shantubhai, Ushaben, Kalaben, Bharatbhai, Rameshlal, and Jekisonbhai.

Even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirit and determination of these seniors (oldest 91 years old) to walk around, dance, do garba, try new foods and thoroughly enjoy themselves.

We managed to celebrate a couple birthdays which made Niranjaben and Manjulaben very happy.

We visited Weston Super Mare Bodin Jail, Jamaica Inn, Port Isaac, the Eden Project, Padstow, St Ives and Pezannce and Bath.

I will do a special post to thank our coach driver, the hotel staff etc who were incredible.

Here are a few selected photos from the trip which haven’t been shared in the other posts.
