🌿 In the spirit of Cincinnati Climate Week, community members gathered at Roebling Books & Coffee (Newport) on June 11 for a "Survival" themed Woven Branches creativity workshop.

Arts leaders from UACC's Place Keepers collective—Kyra Liedtke, Anna Barnes, Rose Gibson, and director Sherry Cook Stanforth—guided participants through a series of creative prompts exploring personal survival kits, joy-seeking, species competition, and the well-being of our planet. Across generations, attendees responded through writing, sketching, reflection, and conversation, culminating in a powerful storytelling exchange that connected personal experiences with environmental awareness.

UACC is grateful to ArtsWave donors for supporting this program, and we are honored to partner with Green Umbrella in launching the first Cincinnati Climate Week!

✨ May (and June) photo dump ✨

We’re a little late to the party, but there’s plenty worth celebrating! The past two months have been packed with events, creativity, and meaningful community partnerships.

Our Place Keepers Open Mic was a wonderful success, even after our hosts at Roebling Books & Coffee (Newport) experienced water damage before the event. (Be sure to show them some love!) The evening featured incredible jazz vocals, readings from Affrilachian poet Frank X. Walker, and reflections from NKY Chapter of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth's Joe Gallenstein.

We also gathered for our annual Lower Price Hill Appalachian Festival, where we danced along with Roscoe Morgan, Rabbit Hash String Band, Ma Crow, Dale Farmer, and other UACC favorites. A huge thank you to our community partners (Lower Price Hill Community Council, Mantle Center, and the Price Hill branch of the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library) who joined us to share resources, information, and support with our neighbors.

Last but certainly not least, our Place Keepers artists hosted an Eco Arts Retreat at the UC Center for Field Studies. Participants explored eco-arts activities, engaged in observation and reflection, and found inspiration in the natural world all around them.

Woven Branches returns on June 11 from 6–8 PM at Roebling Books & Coffee in Newport, KY! 🌿🦋

This month's theme is "Survival."

Day by day, century by century, local to global—we cling to life. Through stories, songs, drawings, poems, memories, and conversations, we'll explore the resilience, ingenuity, and spirit that carry us forward. What story of survival will you bring to the circle?

Woven Branches is a creative and cultural gathering that celebrates Appalachian arts, storytelling, and community connection. All are welcome, whether you're sharing your voice or simply listening.

This program is presented by UACC in partnership with Roebling Books & Coffee. We're also excited to share that Woven Branches has been re-awarded funding and support through ArtsWave, allowing this series to continue for another year. We are deeply grateful for their investment in Appalachian arts and culture across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Create, create, create with us at the Place Keepers Creative Nature Escape Eco Arts Retreat on Saturday, June 6th!

Spend the day surrounded by ponds, creeks, trails, gardens, flowering meadows and inspiring creative spaces, including a beautiful Shaker house for writing and painting.

We’ll share creative prompts, outdoor meditations and forest bathing, optional project feedback, special snacks and time to reconnect with creativity and community.

This retreat is part of Cincinnati Climate Week, and your registration also helps pay art forward through Urban Appalachian Community Coalition’s work supporting young adult artists and community leadership opportunities.
