As part of Micdak charity foundation and JSI initiative to sustain the care continuum project in western north, Micdak and JSI visited some facilities in the Aowin municipality to provide supportive supervision on the pick up points created in the Municipality.

Pick up points have been created in all the Aowin communities to help HIV clients pick their ARVs . This initiative by Micdak and JSI has helped a lot of clients to avoid transport cost . The cost of transport brought up a lot of clients interrupting treatments. This headache of cost of transport has been cleared away by Micdak and JSI initiatives.

This morning 10th October,2023 , the team visited Enchi government hospital and had interaction with the administrator and ART team . This was aimed at assessing and evaluating how far the pick up points initiatives have gone . Another facilities that the team visited are Achimfo health Center, Asuaklo health center and New Yakase Chps . The challenges of the initiative were spelled out by the health care providers and recommendations were given.

We can say without an iota of doubt that the initiative has 90% achieved it purpose and we believe this can help us sustain ARVs distribution in Aowin municipality as well as the care continuum project after the closing out.

Last week, MICDAK , WIYO and JSI organized a Review and Planning meeting for the District AIDS Committees, District Health Directorates on HIV programming, sharing of CCP best practices and sustainability for Suaman, Akontombra, Bibiani and Bodi districts

This meeting aimed at sustaining the HIV intervention program rolled out by USAID since the project comes to an end in September.

MICDAK, WIYO, and the lead organization JSI have organized a review, refresher training, and planning on the implementation and sustainability of the community and social networks work plans for HTS mobilization in Suaman, Akontombra, and Bodi districts.

The participants of this workshop include; Nurses, HIV focal persons, Social group leaders and Heath directors of the three Districts. The workshop started today 01/08/23 at NDUBA GLORIA HOTEL and ends on Friday, 04/08/23

This workshop aimed at providing sustainability plan for our the CARE CONTINUUM PROJECT in Western North Region . This sustainability plan will go a long way to achieve the UNAIDS target 95/95/95.

On 27th July, 2023, MICDAK Together with JSI organized a workshop at Goaso Zeniel Oasis hotel . This workshop seeks to address issues of Gender based and intimate partner violence, gender norms that act as barriers for reducing HIV risk and achieving the UNAIDS 95/95/95 goals among priority population in the Western /Western North and Ahafo Regions of Ghana.

The participants of this workshop were Queen mothers , Assembly members and influential members in our communities from Aowin , Bodi , Juaboso and Sefwi Wiawso districts .

In addition, Gender support group was formed to support this project . The aim of the gender support group is way of helping to sustain the project after the close of FY23.

GBV is largely experienced as violence against women , it can also afffect all people including key population. Many people go through gender based violence such Sexual violence( which results in miscarriages, unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortion, s*xually transmitted infections ), physical violence (kicking , hitting etc) psychological violence ,economic violence and so on.

The gender support group that was formed came out with a sustainable plan to achieve and reduce gender based and intimate partner violence now and at the end of the project . The project comes to an end in September 2023 and therefore it is very paramount to forms such support group.

1. HIV/AIDS education

2. Shared condoms and lubricants

3. Demonstrated how condom and lubricants are used .

4. Offered HIV testing service.

Protect yourself in this festive season. As we continue to have s*x, it's also very paramount to practice safe s*x. As part of our Xmass activities to prevent the spread of HIV, Micdak through USAID and JSI has provided most drinking spots and other hotspots areas in Aowin municipal with condoms and lubricants. The team joined health walks organized by some of these spots today. We sensitized the youth and the general public on HIV.

Micdak would like to remind the public especially the youths in this festive season to continue practicing safer s*x to help prevent the spread of HIV.

Proper usage of condom prevent us from s*xually transmitted infections such as HIV and others .

Be on guide: 1.Check the expiring date of the condom before putting it on.

2. Move the condom in the sachet to see if it’s movable . If it’s not movable, do not use it.

3. Use your hand by tearing the sachet of the condom from the z-shape side.

4. Do not tear the condom using your teeth or sharp objects.

5. Put the condom on an erected p***s only .

6 remove the condom immediately you release . Wear new condom if you want to continue having s*x at that moment.

7. Properly dispose the condom after use.

On 2nd December 2022, MICDAK , Enchi government Art team and Aowin municipal assembly grace the farmer’s day celebration with HIV/AIDS sensitization and testing . This farmer’s day celebration took place at Achimfo in the Aowin municipal. A lot of condoms and lubricants were shared to the public to help prevent HIV and other s*xually transmitted infections.

Today , Micdak , USAID , JSI together with GHS organized two days workshop for health workers in the Bodi, Juaboso and Aowin Districts. This is an initiative to create more pick up points in the various Health centers and CHPS for PLHIV to pick up their drugs. This initiative is aimed at supporting PLHIV cut down transport cost to the main ART sites . The workshop has started today and will end tomorrow 16th November 2022.

These group of volunteers will support in the mobilization of people in their various communities for the COVID vaccination.

Day 1 of JSI COVID VACCINATION AWARENESS : The Micdak Aowin team embarked on mobilization for Covid vaccination today at Amowee , Old Yakase , Achimfo, Yiwabra Nkwanta. A lot were vaccinated today . Some of these areas had poor road network but in collaboration with GHS team vaccination was successfully done .

HTS and COVID Outreach at Kwahu in the Aowin Municipal: On 12/10/22. We visited Kwahu in the Aowin municipal and had HIV/AIDS sensitization and the need for people to take the COVID vaccine. We met a group of tailors and hairdressers. We educated them on the basic facts of HIV/AIDS, adherence, the need to accept living with PLHIV, and the importance to take the COVID vaccine. In attendance was Mariam ( Nurse from Kwahu Pentecost clinic) Augustine (Field officer) , Evans (Case manager) And Oppong (Peer educator )

HTS at Enchi Bolaso : On the 11/10/22, the team of Micdak (Aowin) visited Enchi Bolaso Tailors Association. The team was there to sensitize the social group on HIV/AIDS, GBV, Stigma and discrimination, and IPV. After the education the group had the interest to have HIV test. Our able case manager Gifty offered to them the HIV test.

Sensitization and mobilization for COVID vaccination: As part of our support to Ghana health service to roll out the jabs , Micdak (Aowin team) did a sensitization and mobilize people for vaccination today . In attendance were the Aowin health Promotion officer(Nelly) and her colleague Albert. The team from Micdak included Augustine Ngissah(Aowin field officer) and Justice Oppong Kent Ngissah (Peer educator). We also had a volunteer called Augustine Awusi who supported in the mobilization.About 33 people attended and 13 were vaccinated with J&J. The other 20 have taken first dose of Astra and therefore waiting for the 2nd doses of it to be taken . This vaccination exercise took place at Nyankamamu a town in the Aowin municipality.

Augustine Ngissah(FIELD OFFICER -AOWIN MUNICIPAL DISTRICT)enlightens the public on HIV-related Stigma.

HIV-related stigma refers to negative beliefs, feelings, and attitudes toward people living with HIV, their families, and people who work with them (HIV Service providers).

However, we stigmatized whenever we believe that only certain groups of the population can get HIV. It's quite depressing when people believe that way. HIV like other infections does not know any kind of population as the layman thinks. HIV should be seen as one of the STIs.
Also, we stigmatize whenever we make moral judgments about people who take steps to prevent HIV transmission. It is very bad to have the feeling that people deserve to get HIV because of their choices. Do not see HIV service providers as satanic due to the nature of their work such as educating Female s*x workers, Men who s*x men, or sharing condoms and lubricants. These are all the means to help end AIDS by the year 2030. It's very unwise to judge people on their HIV status.
If one is infected with the virus, there is treatment. Do not stigmatize HIV clients. Getting HIV is not the end of Life. There's a treatment to help people living with HIV stay longer than we think.
Lastly, when we support people living with HIV, we make it easier for them to live healthy lives.
