Thinking about freedom. Libertad. As I spend each afternoon at my watch at the bedside as my client labors out of her body. She tucks her arms into her gown and likes to be wrapped up. I told her that she is creating a cocoon and will soon be free like a butterfly. This made her smile. 🦋 I got this “Libertad” tattoo on my wrist to honor a man who asked me the first time I met him, “do you know what freedom is?” How could I? I had not risked my life for freedom as he had. As for me, right now freedom looks like living a life that I want for myself, not the one expected of me-one where purpose and joy guide me. I am grateful.
