Building confidence, one goal at a time

Buildu Scotland helps young people and women facing barriers to employment rediscover their confidence, purpose, and sense of direction. Through group sessions and one-to-one support, the social enterprise guides participants to set personal goals, build skills, and take the next step toward work, education, or self-employment.

Their latest programme focuses on women who are struggling to re-enter the workforce — mothers, those on low incomes, or anyone feeling burned out and stuck after career breaks. For many, challenges like childcare, low confidence, or a loss of identity make that first step forward feel impossible.

Rebecca Still is working to develop a goal-tracking and AI coaching platform, designed to help women stay motivated long after the workshops end. The project will:
• Build an initial web app where users can set and track personal goals
• Integrate motivational tools using Custom GPT technology
• Include a personalised “Why” panel to remind users of their strengths and progress
• Lay the groundwork for future development, including a mobile app and online community

By combining person-centred coaching with AI, this project will give women continuous access to encouragement, reflection, and a sense of forward momentum.

Thank you Becky for bringing this idea to life!

A new digital chapter for Scottish Women in Business

Scottish Women in Business (SWIB) is one of Scotland’s leading professional networks, connecting and empowering women across sectors since 1992.

The current website, built on hard-coded pages, has become difficult to update and doesn’t reflect the energy of its growing community.

Shuang Zhao and Anton Maeso are working with the SWIB team to design and build a modern, user-friendly website that:
• Simplifies event booking and membership management
• Reflects SWIB’s welcoming and professional identity
• Gives members a seamless digital experience

This project will help SWIB strengthen connections and continue empowering women in business across Scotland. Thank you, Shuang and Anton!

City Strolls is back online

For nearly two decades, City Strolls has shared Glasgow’s grassroots stories — celebrating community action, local history, and the city’s Common Good movement.

When the website was hit by a malware attack, years of content were lost and the site went offline.

Justyna Ulejczyk worked with Bob Hamilton to recover and secure the site, restoring access to its archive of articles, photos, and community stories.

City Strolls is now fully restored and ready to keep sharing Glasgow’s people-powered history. Thank you, Justyna, for bringing this digital landmark back to life.

Connecting a Global Community

The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) is building the world’s most dynamic community of infection experts — equipping healthcare professionals across the globe with the knowledge, tools, and training needed to tackle antimicrobial resistance and save lives.

With over 7,500 members, 21,000 contacts, and more than 300,000 learners completing eLearning courses worldwide, BSAC’s reach is remarkable. However, as the network grows, so does the challenge of managing data, communication, and member engagement across multiple systems.

Michael Peaston has joined the BSAC team to help create a strategic systems plan that will strengthen how the charity connects with its members and communities of practice. The project will:

• Review existing systems
• Identify opportunities to streamline and integrate tools across membership, events, and learning
• Provide recommendations to support a unified, user-friendly member experience with a single login
• Build a roadmap for future growth, enabling more targeted communication and community engagement

With membership at the heart of everything BSAC does, this project will help the organisation better understand and engage its community. Ensuring experts can collaborate, share knowledge, and make faster progress in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Thank you, Michael, for supporting this important step in BSAC’s digital journey!

Building fearless systems for Fearless Girls Club

Fearless Girls Club CIC is the club its founders wish they’d had growing up — a safe, empowering space for girls to build confidence, curiosity, and resilience through after-school clubs and monthly subscription boxes.

Run entirely by volunteers, the club now supports over 60 girls each week, runs workshops for dozens more, and sends out 50 subscription boxes a month. All while preparing to expand nationally through a franchise model.

But as the organisation has grown, its systems haven’t kept pace. Bookings, subscriptions, and communications all run on different platforms, leaving the team to manage processes manually and spend time that could be focused on the girls themselves.

Michelle Jean Mullane is supporting the Fearless Girls Club team to create a new systems strategy that brings everything together. The project will:

• Review current tools for bookings, CRM, and subscription management
• Recommend integrated, scalable solutions that fit within a tight budget
• Prioritise quick wins, including subscription box management, to support its upcoming PR campaign
• Lay the foundation for future growth as the club prepares to franchise

Thank you, Michelle, for helping Fearless Girls Club take this bold step toward sustainable growth.

A stronger digital voice for The Tumbling Lassie

The Tumbling Lassie campaign raises awareness and funds to support charities fighting modern slavery and human trafficking, helping survivors rebuild their lives in Scotland and beyond.

Their website had served them for nearly a decade, but it was no longer keeping pace — difficult to navigate on mobile, visually outdated, and missing some of the credibility and impact their cause deserves.

Sasu Igodan stepped in to help. Working with the campaign team, Sasu reviewed the existing site and delivered practical improvements to ensure it’s accessible, mobile-friendly, and ready for the next stage of growth. Together they:

• Refreshed the site’s look and structure for a modern, credible feel
• Improved mobile functionality and page navigation
• Provided guidance and recommendations to help the team manage and update content with confidence

With these updates complete, The Tumbling Lassie now has a website that reflects the strength and purpose of its mission — helping them reach more people, raise more funds, and amplify their message against modern slavery.

Breaking down barriers to support at Edinburgh Young Carers

Edinburgh Young Carers supports more than 500 young people every year, providing one-to-one support, respite breaks, counselling, and activities for those caring for a family member with a disability, illness, or addiction.

Until now, referrals relied on paper forms that had to be downloaded, printed, and scanned before being returned. For families already under pressure, that process was a barrier to getting help quickly.

Godwin Iheuwa stepped in to create:
• An online referral form with tailored options and required fields
• An enquiry form linked directly to the charity’s mailbox
• Cleaner layouts and features like guidance links and pop-out tabs to make the process simple

The result is a faster, more accessible system that saves staff time and helps young carers get the support they need without delay.

Thank you, Godwin, for your skill and commitment to making this possible.

“I’m so proud to be a part of the Scottish Tech Army.” – Anthony Eniola

Anthony joined the STA as a volunteer in August 2023 and immediately took on the challenge of leading the iOS development team for Soundscape. With the service at risk of disappearing, Anthony guided the team through complex technical hurdles to rebuild and relaunch the app, giving people with visual impairments the tools to navigate more confidently and safely.

Since launch, the iOS version has been downloaded over 14,000 times – a huge achievement for the volunteers who made it possible.

Thank you, Anthony, for the impact you’ve made and for showing what’s possible when skilled volunteers step forward.

Smarter systems, more smiles at PLUS (Forth Valley) Ltd

We’re celebrating World Smile Day with the small changes that make a big difference. For PLUS Forth Valley, that means completing a project to review and improve the systems they use to support children and young adults with disabilities, and their families.

Every week, PLUS supports over 200 young people, offering group activities, one-to-one sessions, and guidance for families. But outdated systems were creating frustration. Messages were missed, processes duplicated, and staff spent too much time chasing information instead of focusing on care.

With help from Steven Finnie, PLUS Forth Valley now has a clear plan to modernise its systems. The review delivered:
• An assessment of current communication challenges
• A review of its case management tool and its gaps
• Options for streamlining communication and data
• Recommendations for the right long-term solution

By reducing admin and making communication more reliable, the charity can give staff and families a smoother experience and more of the positive moments worth smiling about.

We’re at the Edinburgh Volunteer Recruitment Fair today!

It’s been fantastic to meet so many inspiring people interested in volunteering and to connect with lots of brilliant charities doing vital work across the city.

A highlight of the day was catching up with Robert Aldridge, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, and sharing more about our mission.

If you’re at the fair, come by and say hello, we’d love to chat!

Keeping data on track at Bikes for Refugees

Bikes for Refugees provides donated bikes, equipment, and support to help refugees and asylum seekers build independence, improve wellbeing, and connect with their new communities across Scotland. With hubs in Edinburgh and Glasgow, they handle hundreds of bike requests every year.

But tracking those requests through large, cluttered spreadsheets was slowing the team down. Numbers weren’t consistent, filtering by city was tricky, and pulling out data by year meant extra work.

Hasnain Shaukat worked with the team to streamline their Google Sheets, making it easier to use and maintain. The updates included:
• Introducing filters to separate Edinburgh and Glasgow requests
• Adding the option to view data year by year
• Fixing duplicate case numbers and improving layout
• Providing guidance so the team can manage updates independently

Now, Bikes for Refugees has a smoother, more reliable system for tracking requests. Saving valuable time and helping them get bikes to the people who need them faster.

Thank you, Hasnain, for your skills and support on this project!
