Introducing another famed chef apart of this dinner.

Meet Daniela Martinez, a second-generation chef with roots in Argentina and New York's Queens and Brooklyn neighborhoods. She embarked on her journey as a creative soul, initially exploring photography and art at NYC's Fashion Institute of Technology. However, her true passion unfolded in the world of pastry. After graduating in 2014, Daniela explored various renowned kitchens, leaving her sweet mark at iconic spots like Ironside Fish and Oyster, Sugar and Scribe, Bracero, and Carnitas' Snack Shack. In 2019, her culinary talents shone as she became a Chopped Champion, a significant milestone in her career.

Daniela's culinary journey took an exciting turn when she became the pastry chef at Il Dandy and Arama, collaborating with Michelin-starred chefs Luca and Antonio Abbruzzino. She also ventured into savory cooking as the executive chef at Semola in La Jolla. Most recently, she had the honor of working under the mentorship of Chef William Bradley at Addison, further enriching her experience and expertise.

It's been a wild ride. What a great start to this series! Grateful to be featured as the first chef in this amazing lineup! Thank you to . loving that cover photo!! Congrats on that!!
I just want to quickly say... that without my family, both from blood and marriage, and the array of friends I made back home in NYC and here in SD... my food wouldn't be the same. I carry a piece of you in every dish I've ever created, because the love I have for you... I want the world to experience it as well. So, here's to memories built by my extended Puertorican family on my step-dads side, my sister Niecey and her half Dominican side, and my best friend Glenys for being who I thought about when creating this. I love you all!

Frank L. White (c. 1867 – February 15, 1938) was a professional chef best known as the model for the fictional breakfast chef (often identified as "Rastus") still featured on the boxes of, and advertising for, Cream of Wheat Breakfast Cereal.

A native of Barbados, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1875, where he became a citizen in 1890. He was working as a master chef at a Chicago restaurant at the time he was photographed for the cereal box in 1900.

At 96 years old, Leah Chase, the restaurateur, chef and culinary legend behind the 75-year-old New Orleans institution and seminal Civil Rights Movement gathering place “Dooky Chase's Restaurant” was named the recipient of James Beard Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award.

The James Beard Foundation reiterates the importance of Chase among America's most influential culinary leaders in a town deeply divided by segregation.

Dooky Chase's Restaurant, which is still open today, is one of the only public places in New Orleans where mixed race groups could meet to discuss strategy for the local Civil Rights Movement.

The restaurant has been the meeting ground for black voter registration campaign organizers, the NAACP, political activists, and countless others, and Leah Chase has cooked for them all.

Chase's original dishes has helped pioneer the Creole food movement, and her recipes for dishes like gumbo, jambalaya, and fried chicken have gone on to become kitchen staples.

As a writer of two cookbooks and winner of countless food and humanitarian awards, Chase was inducted into the James Beard Foundation's “Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America” in 2010.

The matriarch and chef passed away on Saturday June 1st, 2019 at the age of 96 but her legacy continues to live on forever 🕊🤍

Chef Works
Join us in celebrating Black History Month by honoring the histories, contributions, and accomplishments of African-American chefs, authors, and restauranteurs.

We’re committed to lifting up Black voices in the food industry year-round. While Black excellence should be celebrated all day, everyday, it’s important to take the time to celebrate Black culture and history in America more intentionally.

Throughout the month, we will honor African American chefs, authors, and restaurateurs of yesterday, today, and tomorrow by sharing their stories.
