More excellent Letters to the Editor, this published in the Daily Breeze

____
I wholeheartedly support Nils Nehrenheim as my #1 choice for Mayor of Redondo Beach.

For eight continuous years as a twice-elected councilmember, Nils has been an incredible force for positive change, accomplishing many critical improvements including:

1. Effecting city charter change for good governance;
2. Record city revenue growth bolstering our financial stability;
3. Streamlined online permit processes minimizing red tape;
4. Keeping Redondo Beach in the forefront with county and state officials;
5. Advocating for the Metro C-line, Hawthorne-Elevated option;
6. Enhancing our waterfront experience with the King Harbor Amenities plan;
7. Securing $2 million for crucial improvements to Artesia Boulevard;
8. Modernizing Riviera Village and Pier with new lighting and pavers;
9. Fast-tracking new bike path lanes;
10. Saved us $100 million in pension debt, ensuring a sustainable financial future… and so much more!

Nils is the visionary leader we need as we approach the monumental opportunities presented by the 2028 Olympics and 2026 World Cup. His ability to see over the horizon and effectively communicate this vision to both local residents and statewide stakeholders will position Redondo as a prime destination for visitors and participants alike.

Nils’ ethics and character shine through in his grassroots campaign — he declines endorsements or donations from City employees and contractors, ensuring he is solely accountable to the people.

I’m proud to vote for Nils Nehrenheim and invite you to join me! Together we can continue this positive momentum and have fun along the way!

More reasons to vote Nils for Mayor!

CHARACTER REFERENCE

Dear ER:

As a long-time Redondo Beach resident, I’m writing to express my strong support for Nils Nehrenheim as our next mayor. Nils stands out as the most qualified candidate, bringing eight years of invaluable City Council experience to the table.

Nils has consistently demonstrated his commitment to putting residents first. His track record speaks volumes — from saving $100 million through smart pension reform to modernizing City Hall with online permits. As a lifelong South Bay resident and 25-year Ocean Lifeguard, Nils truly understands our community’s unique needs and character.

What sets Nils apart is his proven leadership and established relationships. As the former President of the Independent Cities Association, he’s built crucial connections with LA County and state officials that will benefit Redondo Beach. With the World Cup and Olympics on the horizon, we need a leader who can navigate these challenges while preserving our beach town identity.

Nils’ integrity is unquestionable. He refuses donations from special interests or anyone doing business with the city. This commitment to transparency and ethical governance is exactly what Redondo Beach needs.

I urge my fellow residents to vote for Nils Nehrenheim. His experience, vision, and dedication make him the clear choice to lead Redondo Beach into a prosperous future.

KEEP BRAND'S BRAND

Dear ER:

Mayor Bill Brand (2017-2024) was truly a treasure. A man whose word was as good as gold. His unquenchable spirit and zest for life were infectious. His passion for human connection and love for nature were unparalleled. As the finest mayor Redondo Beach could ever hope for, he brought boundless energy and unwavering dedication to his role.

Mayor Brand cherished his friendships and held deep respect for everyone he met. Integrity was the cornerstone of his character—he never wavered once he made a promise. He will be forever missed and always remembered.

Mayor Brand’s wish was to have Nils Nehrenheim, 8 year Redondo Beach City Councilmember as his successor as stated by his widow Deirdre Brand. Nils experience, track record of success, vision for the future and established relationships is what we need to lead Redondo into the future.

Let’s make Mayor Brand proud and preserve our beach life culture.

More excellent Letters to the Editor, and reasons to vote for Nils.

NILS NAILS IT

Dear ER:

Nils Nehrenheim has worked since 2017 as Redondo Beach District 1 councilmember. He has vision and love for our city and he has done the work. Before his council terms, he was immersed in keeping our pier a pier and not a sprawling mall benefiting a developer. He is a straight shooter who refuses to accept money that may be seen as quid pro quo.

On character, Nehrenheim is genuine and does that rarest of things these days, actually listens. I saw him on the Esplanade and asked his view on something and we spoke for a while on a range of topics. He has a curious mind and appreciation for all views. He has looked to studied residents for their research and knowledge on topics under city consideration, giving credence to the notion of it taking a village. Conversely, the character of our current mayor is compromised. He’s gone back on his word and also discouraged public comment in a council meeting. His defenses in both cases were flimsy.

What sets Nehrenheim apart from the others is his experience, passion for Redondo and its people, and his boundless energy.

He has fostered important relationships within the city, and at a state level. He is the guy who has and will continue to work for things like e-bike infrastructure, but will drop everything to head to Sacramento to win state support on local endeavors.

Excellent Letter to the Editor!

Dear ER:

As the one-year anniversary of the late Redondo Beach Mayor Bill Brand approaches, I am reminded of his tenacity, his grit to lead a resident-focused city and his relentless pursuit to keep Redondo Redondo. He was persistent. Effective. And earned the respect of people locally and statewide.It is important Redondo moves in a resident focused direction.

There is only one Mayoral candidate I believe who is going to exhibit the grit and passion that Mayor Brand exuded—Nils Nehrenheim. (He is also endorsed by the former mayor’s wife, Deirdre Brand). Nehrenheim has eight years of supporting small business. He has nearly a decade of experience that he can protect the residents from Legado, the Waterfront interests, The Galleria and Metro.

He has enhanced the parks my children play in, installed bike lanes my son uses to bike to school and fought to make developers pay their fair share when they overdeveloped this town. His leadership has impacted my family in such a monumental way– I have a vested interest in ensuring our city is led by passionate and effective leaders.

Nehrenheim is the only candidate who has not accepted a dollar from special interests, employee unions, or people who hold contracts with the city. His interests are squarely with the people of Redondo Beach. Vote for Nils Nehrenheim for Mayor of Redondo Beach on March 4.

Letter to the editor on the upcoming election

RB PICKS

Dear ER:

As a long-time Redondo Beach Dist. 2 resident I’m sorry to lose Todd Loewenstein due to term limits. He has been a tireless public servant (8 years on the council and 8 years on the school board) and he will be missed. But he deserves a rest.

I’m happy to say that Todd is supporting an excellent candidate in Chadwick Castle. A long-time Redondo resident, Castle is currently chair of the Redondo Beach Budget and Finance Commission, overseeing a $100 million city budget. I believe he will continue with Loewenstein’s vision for the city as Dist 2 rep.

As for the next mayor, Jim Light has been the right person to serve as place-holder for the past year and I wish him all the best, but I feel that Nils Nehrenheim, currently Dist 1 councilman, has the energy, ideas and toughness for what lies ahead. So I’m supporting Nils for mayor.

COMMENT TO THE REDONDO BEACH CITY COUNCIL by Dec. 3

Redondo Beach City Council Meeting
Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
City Council Chambers

On the agenda is a staff recommendation to approve an Addendum to the General Plan Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) that would permit BCHD to have a 1.25 floor area ratio without requiring major revisions to the City’s Final PEIR.

Agenda - Item N1 -
https://redondo.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=7035170&GUID=16D042DA-98C0-497D-81DB-F0ABC219CFBF

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

Approval of the Addendum to the EIR takes the City Council one step closer to approving the 1.25 FAR for BCHD. It would be directly counter to the recommendations of the Planning Commission and GPAC and allow structures up to 2.5X more massive. Oppose "spot upzoning" for BCHD.

SUBJ: Item N1 - Oppose a FAR of 1.25 for BCHD

I OPPOSE the spot upzoning of BCHD. Enabling an oversized 1.25 FAR for BCHD, against the recommendations of the Planning Commission and GPAC, would be damaging to the character of the City and quality of life of residents.

Thanks for helping to protect our community and our public land.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
