ROCKY IS HOME!
We’re thrilled to share that Rocky has been found safe! Thank you to everyone who shared, searched, called in sightings, and kept him in your thoughts.
Accidents happen. Doors get left open, leashes slip, and scared dogs run. We have safety protocols for our fosters and trial adopters so thankfully it does not happen often. But when it does, we know what to do and jump into action. Here is a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes when we get the call that one of our dogs is lost.
The moment that call comes in, our team gets to work:
📍 We map the location and send people to the area right away
📞 We file a lost dog report with the shelter and report the dog lost to the microchip company
📱 We post on lost dog pages across Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor
🛒 We buy supplies: poster board, staplers, sheet protectors, H-frames, and more
🖨️ We print flyers and create large, brightly colored signs
👟 We recruit a team to put up signs and flyers, and we search on foot in large numbers
💬 We set up a central communication hub so everyone stays coordinated
🗺️ We track every sighting on a map and go to each location
🗣️ We tell the public what to do (and what not to do) if they see the dog
🪤 We get humane traps ready
🐕 We bring in a search and rescue team with a trained search dog
We don’t stop until the dog is found.
Every one of these steps takes time, money, and many dedicated people, often working around the clock. Lost rescue dogs are frequently scared and in survival mode, which means they may not come even to people they know. Finding them takes strategy, patience, and teamwork.
We are SO proud of our team for working quickly and effectively to bring Rocky home. 💛 This is what rescue looks like: not just finding dogs homes, but having their backs for life.
If you’d like to support this work, consider donating to help cover search supplies, or joining our volunteer list so we can call on you the next time a dog needs help.
And please hug your pups a little tighter tonight. 🐶
