The NMA is dedicated to keeping its members abreast of the many rapidly occurring advances across the various medical specialties and the changes affecting medical practice. The NMA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The NMA provides continuing medical education for physicians at the nation, state, and regional levels. The NMA Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly has been recognized as one of the best national forums on African American health and medicine.

The CT NMA Society serves as a networking platform for Black physicians and plays a significant role in the dissemination of health information to the Black Community. The CT NMA is a community-based affiliated organization that represents “a collective voice of Black physicians and will be a leading force for parity and justice in medicine and the elimination of disparities in health”.

Dr. Ellis is an Internist and Occupational Medicine physician, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at UConn Health. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he has been involved in the undergraduate medical program at UConn Health and has been involved in the diversity initiatives of the hospital. He is a co-chair of a mentorship program for African American medical students at UConn Health, and he is the chair of the diversity equity and inclusion committee of the department of Medicine.

Kenneth Alleyne, MD, is a board-certified sports medicine orthopedic surgeon practicing in Connecticut and Manhattan. He is an attending surgeon across multiple hospital systems and has held faculty appointments domestically and internationally. He serves as the team physician and consultant to many local, national, and international athletic organizations. Dedicated to serving his community, Dr. Alleyne currently serves as Chair of the Connecticut Health Foundation.

Dr. Iyanna Liles obtained her bachelor’s degree from Duke University in 2010 and obtained her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 2014. She completed her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency at the University of Connecticut in 2018. Currently she works as a general OB/GYN physician at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology at UConn.
