Oak wilt is a concern for homeowners across the San Antonio area, where live oaks and red oaks are a defining part of the landscape — and a major investment for property owners.

The disease is caused by a fungus that attacks a tree’s roots and water-conducting system. Once established, it can kill red oaks quickly and move through interconnected live oak roots, sometimes spreading from yard to yard.

The Texas A&M Forest Service says oak wilt has killed millions of trees across Texas and has been confirmed in dozens of counties, including Bexar and nearby Hill Country counties.

Highlighting our wonderful Tree Guides, Pam and Talat, that led a Tree Trail Trek on Friday morning at the Stone Oak Park North Trails.

We learned about the zones of our aquifer and all about species growing in our ecoregion. Participants left with more knowledge about our ecosystem and inspired to become advocates for our green spaces just like this.

Stay tuned for our upcoming walks this season!

We’re excited to share a new video from that highlights the work of Bexar Branches Alliance, our mission, and the people who make it all possible.

A special thank you to pixelreflex MEDIA for generously donating their time, talent, and creative expertise to bring this story to life. Their team took great care in capturing not just what we do, but why we do it, centering the importance of expanding and protecting the tree canopy across the Greater San Antonio region.

The video thoughtfully reflects the dedication of our volunteers working in the field, the leadership and guidance of our board members, and the broader community partnerships that make this work possible. We are deeply grateful for their ability to translate that collective effort into a powerful and authentic visual story.

🌳 What an incredible Tree Trail Trek this morning at Southside Lions Park! 🌳

A huge thank you to Stephen Fonzo for sharing his knowledge of the park's native trees, their ecosystem benefits, and the many ways Indigenous peoples, Spanish settlers, and later communities used them for food, medicine, shelter, tools, dyes, and more.

Along the way, we explored South Texas ecoregions, Indigenous history, the cultural and historical development of our region, the creation of Southside Lions Lake, and the story behind the park itself. One of the most inspiring lessons was learning that this land was once slated to become a landfill, but a dedicated group of local neighbors came together to protect it, helping preserve the beautiful park that our community enjoys today. 🍃

Thank you, Stephen, for an engaging and memorable morning. We look forward to seeing everyone at a future Tree Trail Trek! 🌳

Big thank you to Josie Gonzales, our Tree Guide, for sharing her knowledge and point of view on the importance and significance of the trees in our neighborhoods. A few blocks in the neighborhood and a stroll down the river left us all ready to explore more.

Rooted Resilience is returning... to 78211!

BBA is excited to share we have been awarded $100,000 by the Nancy Smith Hurd Foundation to once again offer FREE tree care services for income-qualifying homeowners, helping preserve the mature trees that cool our neighborhoods, clean our air, reduce flooding, and improve community health.

This program ensures more residents have access to professional tree care regardless of financial circumstances. Applications open in November — stay tuned as our working season returns! 🌿
