Honestly, I think the donkeys played strip poker last night. When I came to the barn this morning, everything was off their bodies! The only exception was Toadie, who somehow still had his mask on although one eye had been completely removed.

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted because we lost our beautiful donkey, Kong, our DK, at around 26 years old.

I truly thought we had saved him. This photo is D.K. being doted on by a group of us. I spent the entire night with him, and around 1:00 a.m. he seemed a little brighter, a little stronger, like he might rebound. But by 3:30, he was gone. It was incredibly hard.

The donkeys took it hard too. Even his longtime rival, Luigi, stayed close by and seemed deeply concerned about him.

When DK died, there was a veil of grief across the barn. It was palpable. The animals knew that one of their own was gone.

We miss him very much. Love you D.K.

Here is another photo from our amazing Donkey Club Open House!

Donkey Club Open House is our annual spring event where we invite kids from the community to come meet the donkeys, enjoy fun activities, and learn what Donkey Club is all about. From brushing donkeys and racing stick donkeys to games, crafts, and lots of smiles, it was such a fun day for everyone involved.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this year’s event so special! We can’t wait for another wonderful season of Donkey Club adventures.
