We extend our congratulations to the Humphries Family on being named the PanPac Hawke's Bay Farm Forester for 2026 at the Primary Sector awards this evening. Well done Estelle, Hamish.and the Humphries Family.

Farm foresters had an interesting and informative field day yesterday at Te Mata Park.
After a brisk walk to the Giant Redwoods we were joined by Te Mata Park Trust trustee, Bruno Chambers. Bruno spoke about the history of the park and the redwoods, and took us on a tour of recent native plantings. The work that is being done to enhance the park is inspirational.
Our next speaker was redwood expert, Simon Rapley. Simon talked about the economic opportunities for growing redwoods in Hawke's Bay. You can read more about this when our next newsletter in published in early April but suffice to say, most of us came away wondering why we hadn't planted more redwoods decades ago.

Hawke's Bay farm foresters had a real treat at their November field day.
First, a visit to Te Weka Conservation Estate on Craggy Range, where a radiata pine forest has been removed and replaced with 34 residential lots and significant areas of native planting plus 360 degree views of Hawke's Bay.
Our second stop was Tukituki Station, where we had lunch in Kip and Dale Coop's beautiful garden, followed by a tour of their farm forestry and a pruning demo by our own Malcolm O'Dwyer.
We were fortunate to have access to two stunning properties. Thank you to Will Coltart, Ed Saathoff and Kip and Dale Coop for hosting us.
