Governor Kay Ivey has called a special session focused on her $1.2 billion prison construction plan ,hoping to use COVID relief funds, while only looking at one possible sentencing reform. The solution to Alabama’s prison crisis is not new prisons which is a recycled strategy that failed to solve Alabama’s unconstitutional prisons in the 70’s and will only exacerbate the cycle of pain and suffering that Alabama prisons cause. Using COVID relief funds to build these new prisons would set a dangerous precedent that many other states would follow. Tell your legislators NO NEW PRISONS!
