🔥You might be interested in Cristina Archetti's (University of Oslo) latest book (available 𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒, i.e. 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄). It is about the trauma che can arise from not being able to conceive, but it also deals with much broader questions, both philosophical and existential: Why is there so much “nothing” (i.e. experiences that are regarded as “irrelevant” or “unimportant”) in our reality? How can we get to know about experiences that are both invisible and, when they are a source of trauma, buried deep in the unconscious? How do we heal (and are we ever broken)? A book that combines research with what she calls “writing from the body”: tapping into the knowledge, indeed wisdom, that comes from having lived as a body in and 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ the world.

Involuntary childlessness affects both women and men.

Infertility and involuntary childlessness are predominantly framed as a women’s issue. Yet male factors such as low s***m count, poor s***m motility (the ability of s***m to travel swiftly and in a straight line) or the absence of s***m play a role in about half of infertility cases. About 7 per cent of men are clinically infertile and male infertility is on the rise. Research suggests that s***m counts globally halved between 1973 and 2018, with an increasingly sharp decline since 2000 — with lifestyle and environmental factors being blamed, for example the high consumption of ultra-processed foods and the endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in certain plastics.
