Today, April 15th, is the 160th anniversary of the death of President Abraham Lincoln.

Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC on April 14th, and succumbed to the assassins bullet at 7:22 am on April 15th, 1865.

At the time of his death, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton remarked either "He now belongs to the ages" or "He now belongs to the angels."

Either way, Lincoln's death rocked the nation and plunged it into mourning, and changed forever the course of American history.

Today, we remember the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, who led the country through the crucible of Civil War, and gave his life to preserve the Union he so dearly cherished.
