November is National Career Development Month! Did you know that many high school students are able to begin their career journeys while in school? PTECH-- Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools-- offer students the opportunity to gain work experience through internships, apprenticeships, or other job training programs that align with regional workforce needs, guiding students into high-demand, high-wage careers. Across the state, demand for skilled trades-people and technicians is increasing as counties and municipalities welcome Advanced Manufacturing firms spurred by federal investments. Congrats to Waller County for bringing 450 new Manufacturing jobs to the area over the next 7 years!

At the Make It Movement, we’re working with partners in education and workforce development to create awareness of these career pathways for students, families and schools. Knowing that students can often start their journeys WHILE they are in school gets them ready to take advantage of opportunities in advanced manufacturing soon after they graduate.

On September 27th Waller County Commissioners' Court approved an incentive deal that will bring Europe's largest solar panel manufacturer to Texas. Elin Energy, with corporate headquarters in Turkey, will have the capacity to manufacture 2,000 MW annually in their new US facility

When a young person is asked what "discovering their purpose" means, it can bring up a lot of emotions. Whether the middle or high schooler in your life feels excited or lost, motivated or overwhelmed, we can help. Students can "Start Their Journey" on our website. There, they can hear from real people in real careers and find out why they love what they do. They can find roadmaps with links, instructions, and videos on how to begin pursuing their career paths and how they can often start on those paths while in school!

This past weekend, the Make It Movement partnered with Stand Together and FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) to offer three Central Texas high school students an incredible opportunity to learn about Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering careers in motorsport at the FIA Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix! Students shadowed the pit crew, and visited FIA's technical center, media center, scrutineering garage, and safety care garage.
