Join us at 641 Shuswap Ave for the Community Art Show, one day only!

11:00 AM- Opening
Come welcome new art to Chase and see incredible work by local and Secwépemc artists. Opening remarks to kick things off, plus a scavenger hunt to explore it all.

Evening- Come back for the hang!
We're setting up a pierogi bar 🥟 Grab a plate, take another look at the art, and stick around with your neighbours.

We have our 5 scavenger hunt winners!

You found it: the 10 foot by 17 foot Tania Willard print installed behind the Community Hall. Prizes can be picked up tomorrow at the Community Art Show, 641 Shuswap Ave.

Thank you to the Village of Chase for installing this piece for the Art Walk. It is worth a trip out just to stand in front of it. Tania Willard took home the 2025 Sobey Art Award, the biggest contemporary art prize in the country, and here her work is, ten by seventeen feet of it, behind our Community Hall.

Tania Willard, Landscape Painting; Secwepemcúĺecw, 2024, from Bush Gallery activation. Moosehair, copper, wood, pell-tsqwéqwyem̓c (Indian paintbrush) ell r tmicw (and land).

The image shows an oversize moosehair paintbrush the artist made from a moose hide she has been learning to process, attached to wood harvested in her territory and wrapped in copper to secure the bristles and echo Indigenous aesthetics. The work is made from the land and activated on the land, shown here brushing pell-tsqwéqwyem̓c and r tmicw. The enlarged brush was created for Willard and for invited artists at Bush Gallery to make landscape paintings at a scale that embeds the land in the making.

Tomorrow is the day! 🎨

The Community Art Show is happening Friday, August 14 at 641 Shuswap Ave. Everyone welcome, admission by donation.

Come early, stay late, or do both. Here is how the day runs:

11:00 Opening Welcome
Remarks by Landon V. and Dr. Natalie Clark, honouring the introduction of Secwepemc art to the community.

11:00 to 4:00 Open House and Activities
Wander the Community Art Gallery at your own pace, try art activities for all ages, and take on the Secwepemctsín Scavenger Hunt. There may be a surprise or two tucked in along the way.

5:00 to 8:00 Evening Event
Art vendors, an informal meet and greet with the Art Walk artists, a pierogi bar and refreshments, live portrait drawing, prizes and more.

So many local creatives have poured their time and talent into this one, and it is something to see all of it gathered in one room. Bring a friend, bring the kids, bring an appetite.

Have you spotted this beauty yet? Lynn Erin generously let us display her newest piece, "Bear Necessities," in the front window at Riverstone Family Resource Centre, and we could not be more thrilled to share it with the community.

Want more of Lynn's work? You can also find her art at Loon on the Lake Bakery, only for Art walk week from August 7-14.

Here's the exciting part: as soon as tomorrow, "Bear Necessities" will be moving to its permanent home somewhere around Chase. Keep your eyes open as you're out and about, it'll be hard to miss!

A big thank you to everyone who came out to Lynn's paint night on Friday to kick off the Art Walk, and to Little pine catering for the delicious pasta that fueled our creativity. What a way to start the week!

A huge thank you to the Chase Festival Society for making this happen again this year! One of our favourite Cornstock events has officially launched: the Chase Art Walk!

From now until August 14, you can explore the work of many talented local artists at venues all around town. Grab this week's issue of the The Chase Sunflower for all the details on where to go and what to see.

That's not all! This week also brings the unveiling of several new community art installations, and we're kicking things off with the first announcement:
