Brilliantly hosted by The Kings Arms Hotel we had a richt guid nicht celebrating THE Bard. In our 96th year we were graced by the finest of speakers and performers. Reverend Broon delivered the Selkirk Grace with aplomb and Ross Brown addressed the haggis with flair.
Proposing The Immortal Memory Sandy Henry’s great knowledge and passion for Robert Burns and his works shone through. All the way from Canada Ronnie O’Byrne mesmerised the congregation with a rip-roaring Scots Wha Hae and performed the best satire ever penned- Holy Willie’s Prayer. Ronnie also gave a fantastic toast to the Lasses including his own poetical composition- a man of many talents. George Whan toasted Our Drouthie Cronies and as usual he didn’t disappoint-many tears were shed and sides ached! Throughout the evening the excellent Ryan Ferguson on the accordion provided great help for the company singing.
An amazing effort selling raffle tickets realised a record amount which will go towards Castle Douglas Primary School funds.

Another great nicht hosted by The Kings Arms Hotel and the cronies supped and sang.
Richard Brown (Rev Broon) said grace and carried in the haggis piped by John Hilsley. Chairman Graham Bell addressed the haggis and attempted to control the congregation through the nicht- a monumental task! Robert McTurk gave a fantastic thoughtful Immortal Memory and mesmerised with his excellent recitations. Robin Wallace also excelled with his two recitations and farming tales. Next up was Bobby Landers a shire lad who had the room in fits of laughter with his praise of the lasses. Will McCarthy set the tone perfectly toasting his fellow cronies. Throughout the night Bruce McKenzie was the glue with his wonderful music and songs.
