Hello Ca-Vegans!
Welcome to the First Catholic Vegans Group Page on Facebook in the Philippines!
To our fellow Vegans, we would like to thank you for the trust and for joining this group.
To those who are in the process of switching already, please hang in there. We are all here to support you.
To all Non-Vegans, we hope that the information that we will share here, will help you consider to switch, as it will not only be beneficial for YOU and your HEALTH, but most importantly, it will also help STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY and will likewise be beneficial to the ENVIRONMENT, because you will be doing your share in helping reduce our environmental impact - lowering our carbon, water and ecological footprints.
Let’s now talk about the “V” Word!
WHAT IS VEGANISM?
> The official definition is this: it is “a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.”
In short:
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals.
ETYMOLOGY (1944)
The word vegan was coined by Donald Watson and Dorothy Morgan.
The word is based on "the first three and last two letters of 'vegetarian'" because it marked, in Mr Watson's words, "the beginning and end of vegetarian".
BASIC TERMINOLOGIES:
VEGAN - An individual who follows the diet or philosophy.
RAW VEGANISM
Give your stove a break with this diet that excludes all food and products of animal origin, as well as food cooked at a temperature above 48°C (118°F). The idea is that heating food destroys its nutrients and natural enzymes that boost digestion and fight chronic disease.
FRUTARIANISM
This is a subset of raw veganism and involves—as its name suggests—a diet consisting of about 75% raw fruit by weight, and 25% nuts and seeds.
CATEGORIES OF VEGANISM:
> DIETARY VEGAN- also known as "strict vegetarians", refrain from consuming meat, eggs, dairy products, and any other animal-derived substances.
> ETHICAL VEGAN- also known as a "moral vegetarian", is someone who not only follows a vegan diet but extends the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and opposes the use of animals for any purpose.
> ENVIRONMENTAL VEGANISM- refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable.

We will also introduce a VEGAN CATHOLIC SAINT, to serve as inspiration for all of us.
We will also share some of the suppliers where you can buy your Vegan food and other cruelty-free goods, recipes and a lot more!
