Our previous foster post was our last for awhile 💔 we took on 3 extra dogs this week unexpectedly - 2 local owners surrenders and another who’s time was up at one of our local vet partners; those with the 2 shelter babies will be the last of our intakes until we can catch up.
We are drowning.
With the rising cost of absolutely everything, we know so many people are feeling the pinch right now — and rescues are no exception.
Donations are down, fundraising has become harder, and even our own personal pockets are feeling the strain.
Sadly, like many rescues across the country, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to temporarily pause new intakes. Right now, we have to focus on the dogs already in our care before we can responsibly commit to saving more. This doesn’t affect dogs we have already committed to, as we know their outcome isn’t good if we don’t keep our word 🥺
Our monthly rescue bills typically range anywhere from $7,000–$15,000 between medical care, supplies, food, boarding, preventatives, and everyday rescue expenses. Without constant successful fundraising and community support, it only takes one or two major emergencies to put us in a very tight spot financially.
At the same time, we’ve continued working hard to help local families with spays and neuters — even when the expense wasn’t necessarily in our own budget either. Because the reality is… this is the only way we will ever get ahead of the massive animal welfare crisis we are facing locally and nationwide. Preventing unwanted litters matters. Helping people keep their pets matters. Saying yes before animals end up abandoned, neglected, or in overcrowded shelters matters.
Please know this breaks our hearts too. Every day we see dogs who need help, and saying “not right now” is one of the hardest parts of rescue.
